  • Turkey communications director, Fehrettin Altun slammed Netanyahu for offering to assist the Kurds.
  • Ayelet Shaked said on her Facebook page that a Kurdish country is the interest of both Israel and the US.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made his first statement regarding the US withdrawal from Syria, strongly condemning the Turkish military action and offering humanitarian assistance to the Kurds. He stated “Israel condemns the Turkish invasion of Kurdish areas in Syria and warns against the ethnic cleansing of the Kurds by Turkey and its proxies. Israel is prepared to extend humanitarian assistance to the gallant Kurdish people.”

Ayelet Shaked is considered one of Israel’s most active and influential legislators, and initiated and drafted laws including Israel’s 2016 NGO law, its comprehensive law against terrorism, a version of the basic law proposal on Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, as well as a law limiting the powers of the Israeli Supreme Court.

Israel officials indicated the Israel is willing to give any non-military aid to the Kurds.  The same day Netanyahu spoke at a Yom Kippur war memorial service, but did not mention US President Trump’s decision to withdraw troops from Syria, he did seem to have had it in mind when he said Israel can ultimately rely only on itself.

He said Israel does not aspire to be a nation that dwells alone, but that is how we were forced to stand at the beginning of the Yom Kippur War. He added that Israel greatly appreciate the support of the United States in 1973 during the war and for their growing support afterwards. Israel especially appreciates the tremendous pressure which American sanctions take on Iran economy. Israel will depend on itself, by itself against any threat. The IDF is prepared offensively and defensively to deal with any threat and has the overwhelming power to do so, he said.

He stated that the current focal point is on Iranian aggression that has already downed an American drone, attacked Saudi oil refineries, and threatens constantly to wipe Israel off the map.  Time after Time Iran tries to attack us, and therefore we must stand ready to defend ourselves, Netanyahu said.

Turkey communications director, Fehrettin Altun slammed Netanyahu for offering to assist the Kurds. He tweeted, “Empty words of a disgraced politician, looking at many years of bribery charges, fraud and preach of trust. The Syrian Kurds including 300,000 exiles in Turkey are under Turkish protection. We will eliminate all terrorists in the area and help Syrians return home.”

Israel parliament member and former Chief Justice Ayelet Shaked said on her Facebook page that a Kurdish country is the interest of both Israel and the US. The Kurds are the world’s largest nation without a country with a population of 35 million people. They are an ancient people that share a special historical connection to the Jewish people. The Kurds in general especially those that live in Turkey and Northern Syria are the most progressive and Western in the region. They are the main force that fought against ISIS and endured thousands of deaths, under a special joint leadership of men and woman. The western world should stand with them, she said

The SDF has said that Turkish air strikes and shelling killed nine civilians. In an apparent retaliation by Kurdish forces, mortar fire from Syria killed three persons including a child in the Turkish border town of Alcakale.  Turkish forces have seized two villages. The Kurdish are resisting the Turkish assault.
