- Heard has been trying to get the case dismissed, Depp may seek another delay.
- Depp's lawyers have previously asked to speak with James Franco and Elon Musk regarding their relationships with his ex-wife.
- Amber Heard and Johnny Depp divorced in 2016.
Johnny Depp’s lawsuit against ex Amber Heard will be delayed until August 2020. This is after he failed to provide important alcohol consumption and drug usage records as ordered by the court. He is suing her for $50 million for attempting to smear his name after she wrote an article for the Washington Post talking about her experience as a victim of domestic violence. She inferred that the actor was the perpetrator while failing to name him explicitly.
She has so far been trying to have the case dismissed. Johnny is already scheduled to go on tour with his band, dubbed the Hollywood Vampires, on August 15. Thus, he is unlikely to attend the hearing and may seek another delay. The trial was initially set to begin in December.
According to Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman, Heard’s attempts to besmirch his name have failed, and this is why she’s trying to push the case to the court of public opinion. The following is his exact statement regarding this:
“Justice, three years late, has almost arrived. Amber Heard, previously arrested and jailed for violent domestic abuse, and then caught on tape and by dozens of eyewitnesses for her hoax accusing Johnny Depp of violent domestic abuse, is staring at her trial.
. . . The abuse defamation she inflicted on Johnny Depp was somehow not about Johnny Depp. The public is not so easily fooled and the truth is not so easily suppressed.”
Johnny Depp’s lawyers have previously asked to speak with James Franco and Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, regarding their relationships with his ex-wife. They particularly want to know what the two saw in May 2016, following the argument that led to the end of their marriage.
According to Depp’s lawyers, Franco was seen speaking to Heard less than 24 hours after the fight. Surveillance camera footage captured the pair entering an elevator together, which Heard’s attorney dismissed as coincidental.
Heard’s legal team termed the claims as “salacious” and “pathetic,” while insisting that Depp left the Aquaman actress with a “battered face” in May 2016. Amber could be seen hiding her face from the camera while talking to Franco. Depp’s lawyers wanted to know if Franco saw the alleged injuries on her face.
On Musk, he and Heard began seeing each other in 2016, although exactly when their relationship turned romantic remains in dispute. Depp has publicly suggested the two may have been seeing one another romantically during the marriage. He stops short of saying whether or not that was what precipitated the power couple’s very public divorce.
Both parties signed NDAs that legally prevent them from disclosing details of their relationship. Depp says Heard violated that NDA in the 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post, in which she claimed she was the victim of domestic violence. Amber and Johnny divorced in 2016. Depp was ordered to pay $7 million as divorce settlement, which she gave to charity.
