Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2020 will start from January 11 to 18, and will be hosted by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar.” The week takes place under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Activities will focus on discussing the global sustainability agenda and the role of development in the areas of artificial intelligence, big data and the Internet of Things. All of this is accelerating the pace of sustainable development and other issues that contribute to shaping the future of development in the world.
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, at its current session, witnesses ten major events that fall under the main theme of this year, “accelerating the pace of sustainable development.” The nine topics of discussion for this year are youth, artificial intelligence, and society, energy, climate change, space exploration and technology, health, water, food and technology for a better life.
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a global platform to discuss the challenges facing the world and find solutions that contribute to advancing sustainable development in the world. Participants expand the circle of dialogue to include issues compatible with the sustainable development goals approved by the United Nations.

The week, through its initiatives and activities, stimulates the exchange of knowledge, the application of strategies and the development of solutions to advance the path of progress towards sustainable development.
The activities of the week begin with the convening of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency “IRENA,” which is the most important event for international cooperation in the field of renewable energy. The association is attended by heads of state, ministers and high-level personalities from member countries and monitoring organizations from all over the world. Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, and comprising more than 170 member countries, IRENA is working to harness its General Assembly to agree on its goals and discuss the importance of the transition towards renewable energy as one of the solutions to climate change and contribute to promoting sustainability.
The World Energy Forum also holds the Atlantic Council, and prepares the first international gathering of governments, sector leaders to set the global energy agenda during the year and respond to tremendous changes in the energy world. The opening ceremony of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2020 brings together more than 4,000 guests from the most prominent leaders of the global sustainability community, including prominent leaders, heads of state, policymakers, executives, scientists, academics and businessmen. The ceremony represents a starting point for the agenda of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, including discussions, dialogues, and events.
