- These individual senators and the Republican party will have to live with the repercussions of that decision in the future.
- President Biden is moving forward at an accelerated pace to stop Covid variants and to provide vaccine protection for every citizen.
- The 1976 movie “All the Presidents Men” has an important message for us in 2021.
On February 9, 2021 our country went through the emotional trauma of another Trump impeachment trial and we witnessed Republican members of our senate (who themselves were victims of the frightening events of the insurrection on January 6th in the capitol) find ex-president Trump not guilty not because they believed he wasn’t guilty, but because of their own fear and concern for their political futures and also because of the excuse that he was no longer president- – an excuse which was proven to be legally invalid.
These individual senators and the Republican party will have to live with the repercussions of that decision in the future. Ex-president Trump who is now a private citizen will soon be facing accountability for all of his actions in the form of many new lawsuits which have been filed against him.
The other important story of February and March is that our country’s citizens are being vaccinated as fast as possible to try to contain the new Covid19 virus variants that are being unleashed in the world. The good news is that President Biden is moving quickly to vaccinate everyone in the country and has set July as his ambitious goal for every American that wants the vaccine to be able to get vaccinated.
I have been lucky enough to already have received my first shot at the beginning of this month and will receive my second shot soon. Perhaps we all can finally begin to look forward with hope to brighter days ahead for America and the world.
Monthly Movie–”All the Presidents Men”
All the President’s Men is a 1976 American political biographical drama film about the Watergate scandal, which brought down the presidency of Richard Nixon. it is based on the 1974 Non fiction book of the same name by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, the two journalists investigating the Watergate scandal for the Washington Post.
The film starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman was nominated for multiple awards. The Watergate scandal was a Political scandal in the United States involving the administration of the U S President Richard Nixon from 1971 to 1974 that led to Nixon’s resignation. It is of special interests to us in 2021 because it is about proof of crimes committed and ultimate accountability that must be paid even by those in high office who commit criminal acts. Nixon had to resign from the presidency and there were 69 people indicted and 48 people—many of them top Nixon administration officials—who were convicted.
It reminds us that people even in high places who commit crimes against our democracy will be held accountable and will ultimately be punished. It is another example that no one in our country is above the law even though it might take some time to bring them to justice.
