On Lag Bomer this month occurred a freak accident when forty-five people including children died in a section of the crowd watching the Rabbi of the Ultra-Orthodox sect of Chassidim Toldot Aharon light the torch symbolic of the fire of the soul of Bar Yochai. The place was overcrowded and after the lighting people cramped in tightly who wanted to leave the area were stampeded and trampled one upon the other. There were many injuries including these forty-five martyrs. They all should have a speedy recovery and eternal peace in the Garden of Eden.

Arab violence in Jerusalem.

The natural cause of this disaster was that the area where was the lighting needed more space and exits in case of emergency. The people cramped into this area were breathless. The injuries were not from loss of blood but loss of breath. They were stuck in and couldn’t get out.

Meron is the place of the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai the author of the Zohar the Book of Splendor. The Zohar is esoteric Judaism including in it all areas of Torah study from laws and commandments, to revealing the secret of the Messiah and the redemption. Fundamental Judaism deals almost completely with the study of law, the Mishna and Talmud. Jews accept the Law of Moses given to them on Mount Sinai with simple faith to fulfill the commandments without looking to know the reasons of the commandments or its divine secrets.

The Bible since the times of the Biblical nation of Israel has spread out to the world. The Bible is the foundation of World Faith. Christianity and Islam have accepted the authenticity of the Five Books of Moses and Jewish Law but have adapted the text of the Bible for their own constituents. The Christians made a New Testament. Mohammed wrote the Koran for the nation of Islam who were originally the children of Ishmael the son of Abraham. The Modern State of Israel accepts the religions of Islam and Christianity even though it is a Jewish State.

Pope Francis speaking at St Peter’s Square expressed his closeness to the people of Israel and said that he would pray for the Meron Stampede victims. President Joe Biden said the US stands with the people of Israel and Jewish people the world over in their time of mourning for the victims of the stampede in Meron.

After elections in March Netanyahu was unable to form a new coalition government. Yair Lapid of the Yesh Atid party was then selected to try to make the new coalition with him as Prime Minister. The Arab parties still have not chosen support for any particular candidate. Lapid will have 28 days to gather support for his coalition.

Tuesday is Jerusalem Day when is usually a large Flag march in the capital. However, the Arabs celebrating their holiday of Sacrifice, Ramadan have rioted in Jerusalem. The violence is the worst in four years. Israel fears an all-out conflict in the next few days. Fatah has warned about further violence and the possibility of another intifada. 90 Palestinians were injured in these clashes and a rockets and incendiary balloons were thrown from Gaza.

Israel has guaranteed the Arabs freedom to worship in Jerusalem and other holy sites. Their holiday is coming to an end which will also hopefully end this violence. In addition, there were several terrorist attacks throughout Israel in the last week killing an innocent Israeli living in Samaria.
