The new Russian laser complex was presented this week. The Russian holding company “Roselectronika” (part of the Rostec group), a complex “Rat” was demonstrated, designed to combat drones. This information was released at the Army 2020 Expo, which runs from August 23 to August 29.
The main weapon of the complex was a laser weapon. An innvisible threat, unlike the”classic” air defense systems,”Rat” uses non-kinetic methods of counteraction. Thus, the complex is equipped with systems of ultrahigh frequency (microwave) suppression and directed laser destruction.
This allows to neutralize the electronics of an enemy UAV, or destroy it with laser action. The on-board detection radar is responsible for searching for targets, which can detect an object with an effective scattering area of 0.01 sq. m. flying at a speed of up to 200 km/h, and at a distance of up to 3.5 km. In other words, the system will also be able to recognize UAVs built using stealth technology.
The”long sword” of the system will be ultra-high-frequency suppression, which can neutralize detected UAVs at a range of up to 2.5 km. For protection at close distances, a laser is designed, the beam of which can hit an object at a distance of up to one kilometer.
Another advantage of the complex is the automatic recognition and suppression of telecommunications channels. It allows you to detect and suppress radio channels in the frequency range of 2-6 GHz around the clock without the participation of an operator. This will neutralize the connection between the enemy BLPA and the operators.
Like the laser, the suppression system provides a range of one kilometer. All systems of the complex are integrated into an intelligent information processing system. It analyzes data about targets, offering the operator optimal counteraction scenarios. In addition, the machine has a survey and search device that allows you to perform tasks in conditions of zero visibility.
The Rat complex is mounted on a three-axis SBA-70K chassis. The car with a 6×6 wheel formula is distinguished by a four-wheel drive transmission – the design is based on the units of The KAMAZ-5350 truck and The KAMAZ-43269 “Shot”armored car.
The vehicle’s armor provides protection from 7.62 mm small arms bullets, and the armored bottom and cushioned seats allow it to withstand the detonation of an explosive device up to 4 kg in TNT equivalent under the wheel.
The KAMAZ diesel engine is responsible for the mobility of the complex, which allows you to develop 90 km / h on the highway, and up to 50 km / h – off-road, or with broken wheels.
The closest analogues in Addition to Russian development, laser air defense systems are being actively tested in the United States. Moreover, US Northrop Grumman has Stryker complex.
