July is all about the 4th of July and the celebration and the importance of freedom. It’s about liberty and justice for all.
That is an idea which must be constantly implemented and fought for and defended. This year it has even more meaning because we have seen diverse people in our streets and even all over the world defending the concept of universal justice for all citizens—a concept that we saw with our own eyes doesn’t always happen.
All minorities in the world have experienced discrimination for as long as human beings have roamed this earth. It has taken many hundreds of years to begin to address the inequities that have existed for as long as our written history. Every step forward toward more equality is a step forward for all of us and for the democracies of the world. This 4th of July let us all join in the movement for real equality of all people. It is what all caring religions teach us and what justice under the law is all about.
2020–The Year of Living Dangerously
Our cities and states are beginning to open up for business as usual. Although Covid19 cases are still going up in our country, there is much pressure to open up our economy again even at the risk of many more deaths. We must understand that we can’t trust many of our leaders to care about our welfare and protect us. That means that each of us must do better at taking care of ourselves and our families as we go out into a dangerous world.
We must remember that every time we go out, we will be endangering our lives and the lives of our families and we must do all that we can to protect ourselves. This year all of our decisions will be difficult and sometimes life-threatening. If we keep this in mind, we and our families will come safely through the most dangerous time we all have ever experienced into a safer and happier and less stressful life in the future.
Movie– The Conspirator– Directed by Robert Redford
When a country is consumed with fear and hatred and emotions run high, people rarely think clearly or make good decisions That is the theme that Robert Redford’s movie “The Conspirator” explores. This is based on the true story of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and what followed when the government of the United States began to punish the guilty conspirators.
It tells the story about the first woman to be unjustly executed in the US. It is about the anger in the highest ranks of government and because of that anger and political consideration, the inability of top leaders and the judicial system to dispense justice.
