Ask Pete Buttigieg If We Should Stop Honoring George Washington?

Is it better to be just color blind (to race), or change how we honor past historians figures based on race relations today?  Dr Martin Luther King Jr said it very well: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) is claiming it “is the right thing to do” to rewrite history and erase U.S. Presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson from our public buildings and all other honors. Buttigieg would have us erase our forefathers because he believes they have legacies that are “problematic.” George Orwell said “The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.”  Isn’t that what Mayor Pete is doing? He’s not change history but our understanding of history.

Should we remove Julius Caesar or Augustus Caesar? They owned slaves. What about Benjamin Franklin the inventor, or Ulysses S Grant? Both owned a slave. John Hancock, the insurance company, is named after a slave owner. Should they be forced to change their name?  Sam Houston, the great founder of Texas owned slaves. The City of Houston was named in his honor. Patrick Henry famous said “Give me liberty or give me death.” Isn’t that what his slaves wanted also? By the way the Star Spangled Banner was written by a slave owner. Do we need to change this?

How about all the streets, parks and schools named after Washington, Jackson and Jefferson? What about Washington DC itself? Also the State of Washington?

So if the problem is that we can’t honor people who owned slaves in the past, then what about Muhammad, who owned slaves? How will Pete Buttigieg explain his new rules to the followers of Islam?

Three Harvard College presidents owned slaves. The first nine Presidents of Princeton owned slaves and a slave auction was held on campus. Yale inherited a slave plantation.

Will Buttigeg and those who agree with him be using any standards to decide which of our great leaders we Americans are allowed to honor? Or will we be leave this to the politicians, the current mob and polling?

Buttigieg claims we need to make reparations, based on history from 200 years ago. Do we want the world that Jefferson and MLK struggled for, or the one that Pete Buttigieg would create? How will the future judge Pete’s opinions? Will anyone be grateful enough for his existence that they will name a school after him?

Currently, the only supporters of a reparations study paid for by the US government are Democrats: Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Bernie Sanders, Tim Ryan, Sen.Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Sen Cory Booker and more. Are they trying to heal racial strife in this country, or are they stoking it for votes? These are the same politicians who claim that President Donald Trump (R) encourages racial division.

Worse of all is that so many liberal newspaper editors support this type of racial conflict. Maybe we should all be color blind and judge people by the content of their character.
