Miguel Torneire

Miguel Torneire, a Brazilian by birth, a US Citizen by Naturalization, and a Guatemalan by option, is a long-time advocate for the poor. After four years serving as a resident missionary in Guatemala and nine years as a non-resident missionary in the US, in 2018 Miguel founded Developing Our World. As the Executive Director of Developing Our World, MO-based non-profit, organization, Miguel leads strategic short-term teams to engage in Holistic Community Development. As he describes it, is a process whereby community members come together to take collective actions and generate solutions to common problems. Community wellbeing (spiritual, physical, social, economic, educational, religious, environmental, athletic and cultural) evolves from collective actions being taken at a grassroots level. Its scope could range from small initiatives within a small group or large initiatives that involve the broader community. Developing Our World seeks to put holistic community development into action, by mobilizing people and resources to empower people to change their lives in their communities. He prides himself being an “activist” trying to end every kind of poverty, starting in the USA and throughout the world.

To his credit, Miguel inherited strong Christian values from his grandparents, who were always at the service of the poor. At the Seminary, he specialized his skills in Evangelism and service to his neighbors. Being a Pastor at Iglesia Luterana El Divino Salvador in Guatemala from 2004 to 2008, he had the opportunity to put his values and skills acquired into action. Soon after, he had the mentorship of Dr. Steve Hughey, working at Central American Lutheran Mission Society as Missionary-at-Large and Director for Central America from 2009 to 2018. Together, they worked developing and sending strategic short-term teams, discipling people, and expanding the work of CALMS throughout Central America. He holds a Bachelor of Divinity from Seminário Concórdia in São Leopoldo and a Bachelor of Theology from Universidade Luterana do Brasil, and a Master of Arts in Christian Outreach from Concordia University in St. Paul.

Miguel loves Jesus! And, he is a husband, a father, a Lutheran Pastor, a Missionary, an Executive Director, an Author, a flamenguista (a supporter of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo soccer team), a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, and a fan of extreme sports.
