- Joe Biden has appointed Ron Klain as his Chief of Staff in the White House.
- The next First Family will have many Jewish family members.
- Israelis respect Joe Biden, who has always been a friend of Israel.
American Jews will play a prominent part in the new administration of President-Elect Joe Biden. Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris is married to Doug Emhoff, making him the first Second Gentleman of the United States and the first Jewish spouse of an American President or Vice President.
Mr. Emhoff and Vice President-Elect Harris met on a blind date set up by one of their friends, and were married in 2014. He is a lawyer and has accompanied the candidate on campaign events.
President-Elect Biden’s daughter-in-law, Melissa Cohen, who is married to his son, Hunter, is also Jewish and a South African national. Hunter Biden is an American lawyer and investment counselor, the second son of Joe Biden. Hunter and his father have been involved in conspiracies pushed by President Trump.
In addition, President-Elect Biden’s daughter, Ashley, married Otorhinolaryngologist Howard Krein, and was married by a rabbi and priest at her husband’s request. Dr. Krein’s family is also Jewish.
Now Joe Biden has appointed Ron Klain as his Chief of Staff in the White House. Klain was born in Indianapolis to Jewish parents. He served as Biden’s Chief of Staff when he was Vice President, and also was the White House’s Ebola Czar. Biden said of Klain’s appointment:
“Ron Klein’s deep, varied experience and capacity to work with people all across the political spectrum is precisely what I need in the White House chief of staff as we confront this moment of crisis and bring our country together again.”
Klein was born in Indianapolis, received a BA degree summa cum laude from Georgetown University in 1983. In 1987, he received J.D. degree magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. He also served as the White House response coordinator in 2014 and has taken considerable interest in the response to the Coronavirus.
On Monday, President-Elect Biden announced a 12-member task force to deal with the pandemic. President-Elect Biden delivered an address from Wilmington, Delaware, about the Coronavirus advisory board which his transition team set up to combat the virus. He warned:
“We’re still facing a very dark winter. . . There’s a need for bold action to fight this pandemic. We’re still facing a very dark winter … infection rates are going up, hospitalizations are going up, deaths are going up . . . Today our work begins.”
He asked people to wear masks when they leave the house.
“It doesn’t matter who you voted for, where you stood before Election Day. It doesn’t matter your party, your point of view. We can save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask for the next few months. Not Democrat or Republican lives, American lives.”
The President-Elect added, “do it for yourself, do it for your neighbor.” He promised the American public that he would get the virus under control. He mentioned about the good news of the new vaccines of Pfizer and BioNtech. However, he cautioned that the process of developing a vaccine must be grounded in science and fully transparent.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is interested in joining Joe Biden’s cabinet as Labor Secretary. Sen. Sanders was born and grew up in Brooklyn from a Jewish family. He did his Bachelors at Brooklyn College, like many Jewish students.
President Donald Trump also had a prominent Jewish family member. His daughter, Ivanka, married Jared Kushner, an Orthodox Jew. Both of them joined President Trump as part of his staff. Kushner was influential in getting the Arab nations, the UAE, Bahrain, and Sudan, to sit down with Israel and make peace.
Although a majority of Israelis supported President Trump in the elections, and feel that his defeat is for Israel a great loss, they respect Joe Biden, who has always been a friend of Israel. For decades, his actions in the U.S. Senate consistently demonstrated support for Israel.
Israel, like America has two main political factions. Both are democratic nations. The majority of Jews in America have always been Democrats. Joe Biden is surrounded by American Jews in his personal life and in his administration, which will surely give him incentive to defend Jews against Anti-Semitism.
The Jewish people are a minority in the world and in the United States. Nevertheless, their presence in America and the world is felt as if they are a majority. Jews are good for the world. They are the children of Abraham, who was a man of peace.
