People take for granted the gift of life. In the morning when you wake up you should bless God for giving you another day. The Jewish custom is to bless God for health after attending to one’s needs in the bathroom. When you go to the bathroom in the morning or during the day and empty your bowels or urinate, afterwards it is a good time to bless God for health.
Progressive liberal influences are affecting Orthodox Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Jews throughout the world. In the news is an article regarding the Catholic church Pope Benedict warns against relaxing priestly- celibacy rules. Pope Benedict resigned from his position and Pope Francis is his successor. Many people guess the reason for his resignation which was very unusual for a Pope to resign. He may have seen that in the future there would be pressure on the Catholic Church to institute reforms and he was not willing to make these changes. One of the changes is being talked about by Pope Francis regarding priestly celibacy rules under the pressures of his opponents that have pressured the church on the issue of immunity of Priests to sexual abuse accusations. Pope Francis has opened the Catholic Church to gays, and has endorsed interfaith dialogue.
Democracy is the result of six thousand years in the development of civilization. Democracy is the macrocosm of the story of life and civilization from the first day of creation until today. The microcosm of creation and civilization are the religions in the world, the nations of the world with a law. The macrocosm democracy with the ideology of freedom is one, the aspect of unity. The microcosms are multiple nations each with their own law. The law of a democracy is like is written in the Declaration of Independence, One nation under God with liberty and justice forever. Within a democracy is a microcosm which is called its constitution. There is no nation without boundaries, without a constitution. In a democracy the macrocosm is freedom as an ideal. In a microcosm a theocracy or secular dictatorship there is no statute of freedom written in the law. The people are called subjects, servants of their nation. President Trump declared at the Evangelist rally, America worships God and not its nation.
The 10th day of the month of Tevet which falls out this year on January 7, is a sad day in Jewish history and a Jewish fast day. It commemorates the day that Nebuchadnezzer the Baylonian King began the siege of Jerusalem and the holy temple built by King Solomon. Through the conquest of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple the Jewish people were exiled from their land almost completely. However they continued their religion in other places in the world. Seventy years later they returned to their land and built the second holy temple in Jerusalem which lasted over four hundred years. At one point in Jewish history Israel had sovereignty over the land of Israel. Even in the time of the second temple they did not have sovereignty and were a satellite nation.
The Supreme Court of New York decided in 1986 that the holy books in the Library of Agudas Chassidei Chabad on Eastern Parkway were their own treasures left to them by their Grand Rabbis and personal collections. The Grand Rabbi is part of his congregation and the Rebbe and his followers are one body with one divine interest the welfare of the Jewish people and the holiness of Judaism. The day of this decision was declared by their leader Rabbi Schneerson to be a Jewish holiday.
People want to blame President Trump for the constant anti-Semitic attacks on Jews like the attack in Jersey City and the attack in Monsey. For sure during the four year term of President Trump has risen the amount of hate crimes. Blaming President Trump for these crimes contradicts the truth. More than any other President of America President Trump fights against hate crimes.
The holiday season has arrived. This week the Jewish people celebrate the holiday of Hanukah at the same time is celebrated Christmas and also New Year’s Day. Not every year does it all come in one bundle for Judaism goes according to the Lunar Calendar and the Western world goes according to the Solar Calendar. Jews adjust the Lunar Calendar in springtime by making a leap year that it should always be connected to the Solar Calendar. Therefore Hanukah and Christmas if they don’t fall exactly during the same week always are in the same season. Holidays are meant to be a blessing for all mankind. Christians and Jews are in the holiday season. Muslims go strictly according to the Lunar Calendar and even though Islam was born from Judaism and Christianity; it functions as a separate unit without connection to Hanukah and Christmas.
India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narenda Modi, passed a bill called the Citizenship Amendment Bill which gave citizen rights to Hindus and other minorities but not to Muslims. Two hundred thousand Muslims live in India and have citizenship but they are only 20% of the population. They want equal rights and are demonstrating against this bill. Through this bill India controls immigration to prevent the nation from becoming Muslim.
Pope Francis has, with immediate effect, abolished the pontifical secrecy in cases of sexual violence, child abuse, and child pornography. The decision was made on the 4th of this month and announced this Tuesday. Thanks to the declaration by the Pope, complaints, testimonies, and procedural documents on such cases, kept in the archives and departments of the Holy See and the dioceses, may be provided to magistrates of the respective countries, upon request, per their respective legal systems.
The whole Jewish world is preparing to celebrate the Holiday of Hanukah that arrives this year on December 23 and is celebrated for eight days. About the same time comes Christmas which until January 1 is eight days also called the holiday season.
Like all Jewish holidays there are laws which govern over its observance. Hanukah is not a holiday which is mentioned in the Torah the five books of Moses but was established later in the times of the second temple at about 167 BCE. The first temple in Jerusalem was built by King Solomon after his son David had completed the conquest of the Biblical land of Israel.
On December 10, a deadly shooting took place at a grocery store located in the Greenville section of Jersey City in which five people including the two attackers and three civilians were killed while another civilian and two policemen were injured. The motive of this attack has been established to be anti-Semitism. The two terrorists, who were members of the Black Hebrew Israelites, posted their intentions to attack the Kosher Supermarket as a hate crime and also stated that they intended to kill and injure policemen.
In a democracy there are civilians and soldiers. In a theocracy every citizen is also a soldier of the nation. A dictator will not allow the people of his nation to rest. They are always under his rule, the fear of their dictator is upon them. Freedom is a purpose in a democracy; in a dictatorship or theocracy the purpose of life is work.
Kosher is a designation connected to the Bible. Moses the prophet inspired by God placed in the Torah the laws of Kashrut. An animal to be Kosher had to have two signs, which were split hooves and to chew its own cud. Fish needed to have fins and scales. Only the specific birds mentioned in the Torah are Kosher to eat. Milk and Meat are forbidden to be cooked together. The Torah is the wisdom of God and the reason for the laws of Kosher are part of the divine wisdom.
On November 23, 2019 was the annual convention of Lubavitch Chabad Chassidism gathering together at their headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, N.Y. Over 5000 emissaries from all over the world gathered together for this celebration devoted to the strengthening of Judaism and the final redemption of the World through the coming of the Messiah.
Israel is today a democracy. In the times of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem it was a theocracy with a King. There were no elections like in Israel today. The King was chosen by a prophet. The first King was King Saul appointed by the prophet Samuel. The son-in-law of Saul and warrior in his army was David who became the successor to King Saul. The son of King David was Solomon who became King at the age of 12 years old and reigned for forty years.
In synagogues throughout the world this week on the Sabbath will be read the story of Abraham in Genesis:12. God appeared to Abraham and gave him instructions to leave his native country, the land of his father and go to Israel. He said to Abraham I will make from you a great nation, I will bless you, and make your name great, you will be for the world a blessing, those that bless you will be blessed, those that curse you shall be cursed, in you all the families of the world will be blessed.
Already Israel has reached a standoff in elections and in the formation of a government. In Israel there are two sides which are led by two of the major parties which is Blue-White and Likud. Both of these parties have received the same number or close to the same number of mandates but still have not been able to make a majority coalition government. Each of these parties need to reach 61 mandates which include mandates from other parties in the coalition.
The story of the Tower of Babel has a universal message. Just after the flood of Noah mankind began to rebuild. Nimrod a warrior wanted to conquer the world that all people should speak the language of his nation. He began to build a tower to show his strength.. God interfered with their plans and spread the people of his nations throughout the world speaking many languages.
In synagogues throughout the world this week, the story of Noah and the flood is read from the Torah. The Torah was completed on the holiday of Simchat Torah the eight day of the holiday of Succot. Last Sabbath was read the first chapter of Genesis “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
In the light of the death of Aba Bakr al-Baghdadi, the world has become aware of the danger of religious extremism. It still is not over but the problem of extremism in religion has become more public. It is not only a Muslim problem. It is also Christian and Jewish problem. There has been terrorism from all sides.
President Donald Trump announced proudly to the world “Last night the American Army brought the greatest terrorist in the world to justice.” Abu Bakr al –Baghdadi was the leader of the terrorist organization ISIS which was and still is a threat to the whole world. Similar to this event came the time when the Obama administration announced the death of Osama Bin Ladin who had been the organizer of the terrorist attack which downed the Twin Towers in New York and a part of the Pentagon in Washington.
On the High Holidays ten days between Rosh Hashanna until Yom Kippur is emphasized prayer and repentance and the blowing of the Shofar. On Rosh HaShanna is blown one hundred blasts of the Shofar in each of the two days and the Fast Day of Yom Kippur is culminated with one long blast of the Shofar.
On Wednesday October 9, the Jewish people celebrate the high holy day of Yom Kippur, a fast day beginning at the night until the next evening 24 hours. On the day of Yom Kippur the whole Jewish nation would gather in Jerusalem at the holy temple for the ceremonies and prayers. One of the miracles of the Holy temple was that the whole nation of all the men of Israel were able to fit in the four corners of the temple and worship together include prostrating themselves on the ground. Yom Kippur is a one day high holiday representing the faith in the one God the creator of the universe.
President of Israel Reuven Riblin at the 22nd inaugural meeting of the Knesset said that Israeli Democracy is in a state of emergency and a government must be formed as soon as possible. Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein addressed the long period of political uncertainty from April since the 21st Knesset was dissolved without making a government. They both called for a unity government. They said that Israelis will not forgive the leaders of the two major parties if a third election is held within a year.
This week the Jewish people celebrated the New Year on their Lunar Calendar. In many congregations in Synagogues throughout the world they gathered together performing their ritual services. It is a great feeling to be united as a group, a people in unity. The unity of the Jewish people is that they are the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The story of the Jewish people is written in the Bible.
Israel and Jews in the whole world will be celebrating their New Year’s day on Monday September 30, 2019. Two days are celebrated in which it is forbidden to do work. The Nation of Israel honors Rosh HaShanna as a national holiday. The observance of Rosh HaShanna is mentioned in the Bible Number 29: 1-5 “ In the seventh month the first of the month is a holy day where all work is forbidden called the day of the blasting of the Shofar the ram’s horn.” There were specific sacrifices that were made on Rosh Hashanna in the holy temple.
There is a conflict between religion and psychology over living in the past. Psychology can be called a modern secular social science. If religion is called a way of life; this can also be said about psychology and sociology guiding people in a secular way of life. The influence of psychology is also being felt in religion.
The results of the Israel elections are final. Benny Gantz of the Blue-White party has defeated Netanyahu winning 33 mandates while Netanyahu and Likud received 31 mandates. The government consists of 120 mandates which is divided by all the various parties in the Israel coalition. The candidate who receives the most mandates like Benny Gantz has the first opportunity to make a majority government of 61 mandates. The President of Israel Reuven Rivlin is working to help Gantz achieve this majority.
Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Poem Where the mind is without fear is a pre-independent poem in which the poet seeks complete freedom, a political and spiritual freedom:
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by Thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that Heaven of freedom, my father, let my Country awake!
Not only Jews, but all people can learn from Shlomo Carlbach, a singer, Rabbi and spiritual leader. Born to a Religious Chassidic family dynasty, Shlomo Carlbach learned the way of authentic Judaism at a young age. He studied in the most prestigious Torah schools in America including Lakewood Yeshiva and Lubavitch. At some point in his life he rebelled against Ultra-Orthodox Judaism and established a new approach toward Judaism, progressive Jewish spirituality.
Idolatry is believing in something physical– a nation or a person– and making it your God. In this world there is good and evil. Good is the way of peace and love. Evil is hate and the desire to destroy and kill. National religion denies that they are idolatry. Christianity claims Jesus is God the trinity. There are two national religions at war, Islam and Israel. Christianity today stands in the background, the Pope in the Vatican.
People are waiting for the coming of the Messiah. Tensions continue to build up as national conflicts become more severe. Scientists reveal the dangers of global warming and insist that the earth is aging and needs to be renewed. Everyone is seeking a way to calm their chaos. They need the Messiah for themselves and for the whole world. The revelation of the Messiah is the best solution.
In America the Supreme Court ruled in the time of the Bush Administration that separation of sexes is not always illegal discrimination. In the Supreme Court case called “Brown vs. Board of Education” the courts ruled that separation of people based on color of skin was racist. The attempt to use this legal ruling in other situations was limited in later court rulings. It was ruled that separation of sexes should be allowed in secular and religious schools for many reasons. In a concert it may also be allowed that sometimes it can prevent interactions between these sexes which may become disturbing. Only separations which have in them racism are forbidden which is not the case of separation of sexes.
What or who is a Christian? That is a question that would take many more words than I can write, but I will attempt to explain. I heard a message from our Pastor tonight titled “Suffer and Sanctify” and it gave me an idea of what a real Christian is.
First, we need to truly believe that Jesus Christ was God’s Son as well as being God. This is confusing but I will try to explain that God is a trinity. God the Father who always was, always is, and always will be. He is also God the Son, who always was and always is, and always will be. He is also God The Holy Spirit who always was, always is, and always will be. God in three persons but one God.
Our favorite self righteous preacher (name to be withheld so he will not get even more publicity) attended Lubbock Pride on September 1, 2017 and the attendees denied him!
He and two other protestors were carrying signs that read:
- Jesus Said “… God made THEM male and female.”
- It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
- Will give you $5,000 cash today if….
The world lived without religion until the establishment of Judaism the first monotheistic religion. Even for four hundred years in Israel before the temple was built in Jerusalem in the period called Judges there was no organized religion about which it says Judges:21:25, “And in those days there was no king in Israel, every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” There was opposition in Israel against the establishment of the kingship but in the end religion was established on earth beginning with Judaism. For better or for worse, like it or not, religion is today a reality.
Some pastors have a wicked and warped interpretation of scripture and religion. In my previous blog post Hatred Towards LGBT People By Those Who Are Not Knowledgeable About LGBT Issues, I talked about the misunderstanding of LGBT individuals by uneducated people, and the hatred that is shown. This post was quickly shared by LGBT individuals, Pride organizations, and several local activists and advocates. With this blog post being shared so rapidly and so broadly, this has drawn scrutiny from several groups, and anti-LGBT individuals.
Politics can be religious political like in theocracy. Politics can be secular like in democracy. Israel today is a democracy but in the past the biblical nation of Israel was a monarchy a theocracy. The religion of Judaism is based on the Law of Moses for building a theocracy. Theocracy mixes religion and politics.
Menachem Begin visited the Lubavitcher Rebbe in Brooklyn New York on his way to Camp David to meet with President Carter and Anwar Sadat to make the peace treaty with Egypt where he returned to Egypt the Sinai Peninsula. His first words which he said to the Rebbe who he considered to be the leader of the Nation of Israel “Our nation the Biblical nation of the Jewish people is an eternal people, not like the Modern State of Israel.” The modern state of Israel needs to make concessions in order to survive which means concessions to America and Egypt.
In mid-1975, New Delhi was abuzz with a rumor about Indira Gandhi’s secret romance with her aide R.K. Dhawan. Tales of the prime minister’s love affairs had been abound for quite some time, including her alleged affair with Mohammad Yunus, a close friend of hers and a former Indian diplomat. Long ago, M.O. Mathai, her father Jawaharlal Nehru’s private secretary, was rumored to have had an affair with Gandhi. Her yoga teacher, Dhirendra Brahmachari, and Dinesh Singh, once a foreign minister in her cabinet, were also among her reported consorts.
India is back to square one, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s move Monday to scrap special political rights for a Muslim-majority state in the Hindu-dominated country. The Muslim-rights issue, which led to the creation of Pakistan as a Muslim homeland in 1947, has now resurfaced: Can the Muslims get a fair shake in India?
India revoked Kashmir’s special status with a rush decree. A presidential decree issued on August 5, 2019 removed Article 370 of India’s constitution that provided special rights to Kashmir, which is also the Muslim-majority state. The state lost its unique constitution and the right to implement their own laws. India sent military troops to the region in anticipation of protests.
The controversy over anti-semitism and anti-Zionism is connected to the opposition of Americans today to President Trump and the claims that President Trump is a racist. President Trump has accepted Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. President Trump supports the annexation of the Golan Heights by Israel. People of America are claiming that President Trump and his rhetoric causes violence like the two recent incidents in Dayton Ohio and El Paso Texas. During the Obama administration there were also incidents of domestic terrorism.
The theory of evolution by natural selection (first formulated in Darwin’s book On the Origin of the Species in 1859) is the process by which organisms change over time as a result of changes in heritable and physical behavioral traits. These are changes that allow an organism to better adapt to its environment which will help it survive and have more offspring. According to this theory over billions of years on the planet earth these changes have taken course to create the man we know today. The changes are still taking place. These changes can effect DNA structures within organisms.
There is a book on the market available through the internet written by a former minister “Jesus was not a Christian.” Without reading the book the title and introduction hits my heart because it is true. Most people accept religion as truth. There is truth which is hidden by religions.
Judaism does not emphasize truth. Most important in Judaism is accepting the law given by Moses to the Jewish people. The Law of Moses is divided into two parts the Oral law and the written law.
Minorities have a voice in Democracy. The communists a minority in America burned the American flag on the lawn of the White House on Independence Day in the middle of the address of President Trump.. Democracy allows the burning of the flag as a symbol of freedom of speech. Anarchism is also a minority. If not, there would be no state or law and order.
Nationalism is a necessary evil. God is both national and universal. The highest spiritual level is universal revealed by the Messiah of Freedom through resurrection. You need both national and universal to build the kingship of God on earth. The Byzantine Empire also called the Roman Empire today lives in the small country of Vatican City. The smallest nation in the world may be the most powerful. Last week July 4 Vladimir Putin visited Pope Francis at Vatican City. Russia, the largest nation in the world, visited the smallest.
The Jewish people and their leaders are beginning to soften up about their feeling about Jesus the Messiah. Christians are beginning to soften up about their feeling about Jews. The event of crucifixion is recorded in history in the first century Judea between 30-33 AD. The crucifixion is recorded in New Testament epistles and other ancient sources as an historical event. The softening up of the heart of stone was part of the Jewish prophecy of Ezekiel, I will give to you a new heart and a new spirit, I will remove from you a heart of stone and give you a heart flesh.
America today is celebrating Independence Day. The nation was established July 1776 when the Continental Congress declared the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain and now were united and independent states.
Before America could become an Independent nation they had to fight the American Revolutionary War that took place from 1775-1783. With the assistance of France the American colonial pioneers signed the Declaration of Independence and won their independence.
