China Continues with Military Propaganda, New Weapons Unveiled, Perhaps Copycat Technology?

  • The new product is designed to equip light vehicles – armored vehicles, boats, and reconnaissance helicopters.
  • The rate of fire of the new system reaches 6,000 rounds per minute.
  • The Yakb-12.7 four-barrel heavy machine gun was developed in 1968-1977.

Journalists from CCTV showcased new rapid-fire machine guns. China Central Television (CCTV) is the predominant state-owned television network in Mainland China. CCTV has a network of 50 channels broadcasting different programmes and is accessible to more than one billion viewers in six different languages. China’s aggressive propaganda of its pseudo military might continues.

This is a model with a rotating block of barrels of rifle caliber (7.62 mm). The new product is designed to equip light vehicles – armored vehicles, boats, and reconnaissance helicopters.

As reported, the rate of fire of the new system reaches 6,000 rounds per minute. The machine gun has six barrels. Other characteristics are kept secret, but experts believe that this machine gun is conceptually similar to the “older ” model.

The older CS LM5 heavy machine gun has three barrels that rotate by an electric motor. Its rate of fire is lower (2,000 shots per minute) which is compensated by firepower. This scheme allows you to achieve a high density of fire, which is especially important in the fight against high-speed targets. According to experts, CS LM5 has similar characteristics with foreign counterparts – the American GAU-19, and the Soviet Yakb-12.7.

Weapon design.

China continues to showcase its false military might. China also recently announced the new Nanchang Destroyer.

The Chinese new model resembles Yakb12.7 to the point where one would actually wonder if the technology either was sold by Russia or obtain by “other” means  by China. The Yakb-12.7 four-barrel heavy machine gun was developed in 1968-1977 as a small arms element of the attack helicopter Mi-24. The high rate of fire of the machine gun is provided by a rotating block of barrels, as in the American multi-barrel machine gun “Minigun.”

Yakb 12.7.

A special feature of the Yakb-12.7 automatics is the presence of a special spring-loaded starter device, which was used to ensure the production of the first shot in the queue. The weapon is built according to the Gatling design, requiring pre-promotion of the block of barrels prior to firing.

The gas engine starts working only after the first shot. Therefore, the Yakb-12.7 machine gun has a torsion starter, the shaft of which is located between the barrels. Previously, before starting the helicopter, it was necessary to compress the spring put on the torsion shaft, in order to store the necessary energy to accelerate the block of barrels.

The Gatling Weapon used During US Civil War.

The Gatling gun is one of the best-known early rapid-fire spring loaded, hand cranked weapons, and a forerunner of the modern machine gun and rotary cannon. It was invented by Richard Gatling. Originally, it was used by the Union forces during the American Civil War.

China can’t design, or create themselves, competitive defense equipment and technology. China purely uses foreign technology. In a majority of cases, this technology is usually obtained without consent. It has been an issue with the theft of classified patented technology by China from both the US and Russia.

The newly released weapons are not anything to worry about for the West. However, recent calls for a nuclear weapons expansion by China is a concern.
