College basketball begins its nearly 200-day long marathon season this week, with its earliest-ever start. The idea is to create more buzz for the beginning of the season, which usually tips off around Thanksgiving. Not everyone is thrilled about that, however, especially the coaches.
A trio of Duke Blue Devils— R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson, and Cameron Reddish— highlight a class of players many fans will be enjoying this season, but only for one year. They’ll be going 1, 2, and 4 in next year’s NBA Draft. Changes to the NBA’s infamous “one and done” rule are on the horizon, but, for the moment, the college game will still be dominated by talented freshmen.
