COVID vs CO-WITH

  • The entire world was and is affected by Covid.
  • Now we have our face to face, to the mother earth, evidently, she is angry.
  • Her anger is justified.

In couple of hundred years there comes a calamity or opportunity, (depends on one perception) that allow us or rather force us to introspect, what we have been doing in past. Covid- the dreaded word, virus or even an adjective of evil, is one such event. We have been worshiping development with such an insane belief that the bystander, growth became a mere spectator.

We still have countries, especially the developing nations, strategizing an entire program to get rid of it.

The spread started when human beings interacted with wildlife and the virus jumped from one chain to another (bat to human). This was not an isolated incident, we have seen such incident in past when human immunodeficiency virus, infamously known as HIV, looped such hoops and entered human chain. The dread of HIV is not unknown to any human.

We still have countries, especially the developing nations, strategizing an entire program to get rid of it.

Covid is also such an incident which has looped the national boundaries.

The entire world was and is affected by Covid. We have been audiences to global standstill in every sense of the word. The countries have started blame game, pin pointing the country of origin as the main culprit. Is it so?

When analysis is to be done, we have trickle down the cascade and see where we have put a blind side. we have never taken environment with respect which it deserves.

We have made protocols, let it be Kyoto, Paris agreement or any such interventions, that were never to be fulfilled. As per the study, the points which were agreed upon in 2010 to be fulfilled by 2020, not a single country, signatory to the agreement has come up to level the same. Worst part is such important aspect of global news never made it to the headlines.

This article is not to condemn development, but to put growth in spotlight, and not just our prosperity, but also the biodiversity we have been blessed with.

Now we have our face to face, to the mother earth, evidently, she is angry. Her anger is justified. As per the data shared by living planet index from 1970-2020, 68% of mammal, reptiles and even birds have become extinct, without even coming to light. This is the kind of atrocities our planet faces, every day just because a higher species has the ability to be selfish and live with no responsibility.

This article is not to condemn development, but to put growth in spotlight, and not just our prosperity, but also the biodiversity we have been blessed with. The Covid data also suggests that the countries with less development, has been able to fight Covid with better response due to better immunity. One more gift development has bestowed on developed world. We have seen in lockdown period that the AQI has been better than ever, fishes have started resurfacing, clean river and riverine and lesser consumption of unnecessary goods. COVID is also not only isolated incident for lockdown, Plaque also saw such isolation for mitigating the spread.

All this just because humans were told to stay in their homes. Can you recall one incident where animals needed to be at home for betterment of human race?

All that needed to be done, which is been focused by environmentalist is watch what is required and to what extent. The protocols which were not fulfilled should be realized with vigor and pace. Legal bindings, if necessary should be prescribed as and when needed.

Development is always required as stagnation is not an option, but it should always have a leash around its neck called growth.

We have seen what calamities like plaques, HIV and COVID can do to humans; we don’t want any other unwelcomed guest from mother earth, because they always come to stay.
