Curved and Circular Design for the Child Daycare

  • The importance of economic issues, the inability to use specific forms in terms of cost, and lack of facilities and labor force are the reasons that most designs are rectangular or square.
  • A child's daycare as a place where the child spends several hours can play an important role in the child's development.
  • Square and circle geometries are the main geometric shapes that can be understood by a child under 6 years of age.

Anxiety in children often comes from their early relationships with the environment. Taking the child’s minds into the environment can increase the comfort of the child and ultimately reducing anxiety. So, using familiar forms for children helps them build a second home for themselves and feel more secure. A child’s daycare design requires a thorough understanding of children, which will work well with the child’s mental and functional standards.

A daycare design as a dynamic safe place can be a challenge for architects!

In most countries around the world, most of the buildings are made of square and furnished forms, and the best effort to beautify them is to play with materials such as bricks, timber, and wood. The importance of economic issues, the inability to use specific forms in terms of cost, and lack of facilities and labor force are the reasons that most designs are rectangular or square. However, in more modern buildings, there are more diverse forms that are not just rectangular, and architects are trying to make the city more beautiful and to enhance the functionality of the building in addition to its beauty and impact on human beings.

A child’s daycare as a place where the child spends several hours can play an important role in the child’s development, special care must be taken to make the child feel comfortable and relaxed. Therefore, the shape of the building, the dimensions, furniture, materials, and even colors are important and effective in creating a good feeling for the child. The simpler and more regular forms of daycare’s space can make it easier to see and bring a sense of relaxation.

Square and circle geometries are the main geometric shapes that can be understood by a child under 6 years of age. The square shape represents purity and logic. It is neutral and static and does not have a predominant form. According to some Iranian architects, it is a visual duplicate form that resembles a variety of buildings with different uses such as office, educational, residential, etc.

On the other hand, the circular form is centrally introvert oriented inducing a sense of calm. The free circle and lightweight wing rotate freely in clear interpretations, representing the child’s restless spirit, enhancing the child’s imagination and enhancing the curiosity of the child. Also, it is a beautiful location design that meets the child’s wishes.

Based on researches, children enjoy playing games that combine round shapes.

Based on research, children enjoy playing games that combine round shapes. Most children’s snacks are also made with round shapes. Using forms such as circles instead of rectangles and using curved lines instead of dashed lines will help us to come up with a more ideal form of design and realize such environments are easy for children to absorb. Curved and round shapes used to shape the entire building and interior spaces, combining bright colors and soft textured materials such as fur, carpet, grass, and especially wood, make the space more child-friendly and induce a sense of security.

The scale of the building should also be considered so that the height of the doors and staircases is proportional to the child’s standards. Round windows, semicircular doors, use of round shaped bushes, skinny shapes with the curved shapes are good options to use in design. It would be better to use round furniture in a daycare’s space because it is safer, and it can avoid possible harms.

Daycare entrances are also more inviting if they are combined with play items such as rocking and sliding and green space. Creating round elements, whether in the building or the interior of the nursery, can provide the desired space. A daycare design as a dynamic safe place can be a challenge for architects!

A daycare building should not only be about keeping children whose parents are on the schedule of work, but it should be an area that designs, and build based on the ideal environment for children to have fun, educate and enhance the children’s social relationships with each other. In nursery design using shapes such as circles and curved shapes are best if they are inviting, and color varies. Each child has own privacy, dimensions, and sizes which are perfectly standard, as well as an optimal education system.

Based on my idea, the curved and circular idea used in interior and exterior design make the child psychologically better than other forms and provides a safer environment for the child and will be more visually different. If children have this feature, parents will no longer be skeptical of putting their child in the daycare and the child is interested to go every day. Besides, this place is a perfect place for the child, and it can be an amazing environment for your child to grow and develop.
