- Oleg Deripaska made a post on Telegram platform.
- The post demands China and other nations to be investigated.
- The oligarch post is not in line with what the Kremlin has been supporting.
China continues to suppress vital information and critical data pertaining to the origin of coronavirus in Wuhan. The Chinese scientists that published the genome sequence disappeared and their lab was immediately shut down. According to a French virologist and Nobel Prize winner the coronavirus is indeed a man made virus from a Chinese lab. It is in line with the findings of an Indian Lab, but they were pressured to abandon their findings back in February of this year.
Now Oleg Deripaska has posted something interesting on Telegram. The post has put additional spin on the demand for further investigation. Telegram shot to fame globally because of its end-to-end encrypted servers and the resulting privacy for its user base. However, now the app is being blamed for harboring illegal practices within the user base because of this same encryption. Telegram has already been banned in some countries including Russia and Iran.
Oleg Deripaska is a Russian oligarch and industrialist. He is the founder of Basic Element, one of Russia’s largest industrial groups, and Volnoe Delo, Russia’s largest charitable foundation. His net worth according to Forbes is estimated to be $4.5 billion.
Deripaska has a sordid relationship with the West. In February 2020, the US Treasury Department claimed Deripaska helped Russian President Vladimir Putin to hide money.
In 2016, the US Office of the Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is the agency that oversees US sanctions policy. The agency identified Deripaska as one of the individuals who is holding assets and laundering funds on behalf of Putin. Deripaska sued OFAC over their findings. Of course, the Kremlin responded by denying these charges. Overall 24 individuals, including Deripaska, were hit with US sanctions.
The April 26 Deripaska post mentions the change of climate in Siberia, such as the start of early floods and fires. There is a drought and an unusually warm winter. He is blaming specifically China and mentions even South Korea, due to their barbaric treatment of the environment.
It is a known fact, China is one of the worst polluters in the world. Deripaska states that China continues not only to actively develop coal generation at home (annually burning more than 4 billion tons of coal and emitting more than 13 gigatons of CO2 into the atmosphere), but also to sponsor the construction of coal plants in developing countries under the auspices of the new One Belt, One Road initiate. China is clearly violating the 2015 ratified Paris agreement.
The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, dealing with greenhouse-gas-emissions mitigation, adaptation, and finance, signed in 2016.
Deripaska is demanding an investigation into the Wuhan virus but additionally for the UN to create a Commission that would investigate the systematic violations of the environment protection by China and other Asian nations and to punish them by sanctions and/or embargo.
Even though his post is accurate and it is time to deal with China on every level, the question remains: “What happened for him to be posting this now?” As of late Russia has been aiding China to spread misinformation about coronavirus and attack the West, including an attempt to cause a divide within the US prior to the presidential election in fall 2020.
Since Deripaska is known to be close to Putin, does it mean Russia is about to dump China? At the same time, posts appeared on Russian social media claiming Deripaska is now a Rothschild family ally.
The Rothschild family is a wealthy Jewish family originally from Frankfurt that rose to prominence with Mayer Amschel Rothschild, a court factor to the German Landgraves of Hesse-Kassel in the Free City of Frankfurt, Holy Roman Empire, who established his banking business in the 1760s.
Two scenarios are possible:
1) Deripaska is a close ally of Putin and his post is a signal that the Kremlin is going to distance itself from China gradually.
2) Deripaska no longer supports Kremlin and their close partnership with China and he is publicly making his dissatisfaction known and can afford to do so.
Anyone who does not agree with Putin and his views does not end up well. Anyone who becomes a Putin foe ends up with a lot of problems, from jail sentences to exile. Therefore, the first scenario might be more likely.
It is certain that even in the East dissatisfaction with China is growing. Big changes will be coming in the geopolitical arena. China might be ousted from many world organizations and its economy will suffer.
It is time to bring back manufacturing and stop undercutting workers and patent holders with knock offs. Russia might be getting tired of China trying to steal Russian classified technology as well.
