Three women have publicly come out to accuse US Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland of sexually harassing them. In recent days, Mr. Sondland has emerged as a possible key witness in the Ukraine case, which could end with the impeachment of US President Donald Trump.
Nicole Vogel, 51, owner of the Portland Monthly in Portland, OR, and then a prospective business associate, says Sondland took her out on tour to one of the hotels he owns in the city. They had discussed the possibility of Sondland investing in the magazine she intended to start. Along the way, Sondland grabbed her face and tried to kiss her. She told ProPublica, which in collaboration with the Portland Monthly, interviewed the three women making the sexual harassment allegations against Sondland. Vogel says Gordon Sondland withdrew from the possible business deal after she rejected his several sexual advances.
Another woman, Jana Solis, 58, who worked for Sondland, says he exposed his nakedness to her during a business meeting. She says he was naked from the “waist down” when she showed up for a meeting in one of his properties. After she made it clear she was not interested in him in as far as having a sexual relationship with him was concerned, Sondland loudly criticized her work efforts.
A third woman, Natalie Sept, 35 years old (and 27 years younger than Sondland), claims that she met with him to discuss job opportunities, hoping that establishing contact with him could have enabled her to land a job with the state film commission. Here, she claims that he pressed himself against her, and forcibly tried to kiss her, but she struggled and pushed him away. After the episode, Sondland stopped trying to help her with her career pursuit, the woman says.
Gordon Sondland, who testified in Congress last week, dismisses all the accusations against him, claiming that they are total lies fabricated for political reasons. “These untrue claims of unwanted touching and kissing are concocted and, I believe, coordinated for political purposes,” Mr. Sondland said. “They have no basis in fact, and I categorically deny them.” Sondland added.
Sondland was named US Ambassador to the EU after the wealthy hotel businessman paid $1 million for Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony in Washington, DC. As the US ambassador to the EU, Sondland became part of the group— led by Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani— who allegedly tried to pressure Ukraine’s new president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to open a corruption investigation against Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. The junior Biden previously served as a member of the board of directors of a Ukrainian gas company.
By so doing, the group operated outside the official US diplomacy circles. When Sondland testified at a hearing last week, he said the group’s work was initiated at the behest of President Trump.
