On Sunday, Israel was reported to have attacked a location on the border of Syria and Iraq, which is being used by Iran for storage and transportation of missiles to Syria and Lebanon. Five men belonging to pro-Iranian militias were killed in the attack. This attack was in the same location in which 23 Iranian Revolutionary Guards were killed last month in another attack, when Israel claimed to have destroyed multiple targets belonging to Iran’s Quds Force. Iran retaliated by shooting several missiles at the Golan and Northern Galilee, which were downed by the Iron Dome.
In Iraq, there have been demonstrations in which 20 innocent civilians were murdered. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims they are associated with the Iranian influence in their country. There have also been demonstrations in Iran, which have been controlled by Iranian police forces, who have killed many civilians. President Trump mentioned several times the way Iran treats its civilians.
Russian intelligence in Syria recognized an attack Saturday by the IAF, and said that Israel was targeting advanced weapons shipments, which included high-tech defense systems from Iran to a secret T-4 airbase. The Russians claim to have interfered with Israeli plans to strike this airbase by sending two SU-34 Russian jets to intercept them. They said that as a result, this time the Israeli planes withdrew from Syrian air space, and were prevented from their achieving their mission. This information was not verified by Israel intelligence.
Israel and the United States are discussing a mutual defense treaty between them. Netanyahu claims that such a treaty is important for Israel’s security. Former Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot spoke out Monday against this treaty, calling it unnecessary. He said the idea is not compatible with Israel’s capabilities today.
Israel satellites have revealed that Iran is building a network of tunnels on the Syrian-Iraqi border, where Israel has in the recent weeks made air attacks. These tunnels are believed to be for the purpose of arms and military equipment. An intelligence report published by Image Sat intelligence provided footage documenting large scale excavation works along the border of Syria and Iraq, apparently being used by Iranian militia. It is believed that the tunnels are being used to by-pass the Abu-Karmi border crossing between Iraq and Syria being used for smuggling and storage of weapons.
There is no question that Iran is planning an assault on Israel. What is delaying their plans is that they are waiting for the American presidential election in 2020. As long President Trump is in office and there is continuation of impeachment proceedings they are being patient in fear of an American response. It is ironic that most of the Democrats initiating impeachment are Jewish and against Trump.
Trump has been attacked for making Anti-Semitic comments about his Jewish opponents. Nevertheless, the impeachment process is preventing a war between Israel, Hezbollah and Iran. When Trump cancelled the nuclear agreement with Iran, immediately on the same night there was a large scale attack on Israel which did not succeed. As much as Israel is trying to prevent Iranian penetration in Syria, they can only be partially successful. Russia is also standing between Iran and Israel. Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to get involved in a war which may include American troops.
