Is Turkey Becoming a Problem for the NATO?

  • Turkey refused to terminate the contract with Russia pertaining the S-400 anti missile system.
  • France recalled the ambassador from Turkey.
  • French government websites endured cyber attacks over the weekend.

Turkey made an official statement pertaining the refusal of the contract termination with Russia. The S-400 anti aircraft systems will be supplied to Turkey.  It has been in service with the Russian Armed Forces since 2007. The announcement came directly from the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

S-400 Anti Aircraft Missile.

The S-400 Triumf, previously known as the S-300PMU-3, is an anti-aircraft weapon system developed in the 1990s by Russia’s Almaz Central Design Bureau as an upgrade of the S-300 family.

According to the Erdogan “We have taken steps to acquire American f-35 fighter jets, we paid money, the US did not deliver them, demanding to return the S-400 to Russia, but we are not a tribal state, we are Turkey. We are not afraid of us sanctions”.

The S-400 deliveries under the contractual obligations began in the 2019. It is plausible US will halt the  F-35 deliveries to Turkey.

Furthermore, the Press Secretary of the US Department of State Morgan Ortagus earlier this month issued a stern warning to Turkey of the serious consequences that will follow, if in fact Turkey will utilize the Russian S-400 anti aircraft systems.

According to her, Washington hopes that the complexes will not be used, and makes this clear. However, Erdogan is not afraid of the consequences and even went one step further, claiming that he hopes to have a good relationship with the Russian president Vladimir Putin going forward.

Morgan Deann Ortagus is an American government official serving as spokesperson for the United States Department of State since 2019.

Moreover, the tests of the Russian S-400 took place in Turkey last week. During the tests, three missiles were launched, which successfully intercepted three targets. Presumably, the targets of the Turkish S-400 “Triumph” were British-made Banshee drones.

The Meggitt BTT-3 Banshee, formerly the Target Technology Banshee, is a British target drone developed in the 1980s for air defence systems training.

However, Erdogan bravado might be enough to have Turkey removed as a the NATO member. Additionally, France has been advocating for Turkey to be removed.

French Ambassador have been recalled from Turkey as well. Erdogan also made a statement that Europe signed its own death sentence.  In the history of Turkey, unlike the Western countries, there were no black pages of Nazism and fascism.

Yet, he forgets to mention Ottoman Empire was the bloodiest of them all.  This could be interpreted as Erdogan desire to restore the Ottoman Empire and kill Europeans.

France believes Erdogan is dangerous. Interestingly, after Micron statement, French government and banks reported a massive cyberattack. It is plausible to believe, Turkey is behind the attack.

Overall, Turkish economy continues downward spiral. The Turkish currency dropped to the levels of the early 1990s.

In conclusion, Turkey no longer has democratic style of the governance. It is clear, Erdogan is dangerous for the West. At present, it is time to have Turkey removed from NATO and implement the sanctions. The actions of the Erdogan need to be stopped. The people of Turkey deserve to have the democratic government and positive changes.
