Kristen Gillibrand’s New $10 Trillion Green Deal; Is it Good for America or Designed to Get Votes?

Democratic voter surveys indicate that climate change is one of the most urgent issues among presidential primary voters, so here comes US Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D) with her “Climate Change Moonshot Plan” that would “hold polluters accountable” and phase out fossil fuels along with many other goals.

Kirsten Elizabeth Gillibrand (born Kirsten Elizabeth Rutnik (born December 9, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the junior United States Senator from New York since 2009. A member of the Democratic Party, she was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009.

“Climate change is the most serious threat to humanity today, and we need immediate and bold action to address it before it’s too late,” she said. That would put the issue above North Korean nuclear threats, China’s economic threats, Iranian-funded terrorism, homelessness and border control. She is claiming we need to make the environment the cornerstone around which we build our economy.

“We have seen catastrophic flooding across the Midwest, damaging wildfires in California, and hurricanes ravage communities in the South and Puerto Rico. Many people have lost their homes and loved ones because we’ve failed to act on climate change,” the senator claimed. However, most of her plans would not address in any way the problems that she cited.

To achieve this lofty goal, Gillibrand claims we need “100% clean, renewable, and zero-carbon electricity in a decade.” She proposes an excise tax on fossil fuel production to generate $100 billion a year to combat climate change. She would also push for new standards on newly manufactured vehicles so as many as possible are zero-emission.

Gillibrand claimed she would use a presidential executive order to end all new fossil fuel leases on public lands and off-shore on the nation’s outer continental shelf.  She wants to put a price on carbon at $52 per metric ton, saying it would send a message to companies to stay away from fossil fuels and move to clean and renewable energy.

This plan is reminiscent of Roman Emperor Nero, who how wanted to burn Rome so he could build a new and better Rome. Of course the new Rome Nero envisioned was to be built around a self centered narcissistic emperor. The word narcissistic probably describes the current President and everyone running for president.

“Americans deserve a president who will put the needs of working families first, listen to every voice and be brave enough to fight for what’s right.” -Kristen Gillibrand

The problem with the Green New Deal or the Climate Change Moonshot is that these plans are modeled on the idea of “How do you change the entire economy thing” as described by AOC’s Chief of Staff Saikat Chakrabarti, the architect of the Green New deal. So, this is not about creating a greener planet. This is socialism packaged and wrapped in environmentalism. At some point, hopefully, the fake news media will tell people the truth.

Gillibrand’s plan also focuses on the competition between the US and Chinese economies, the latter of which she claimed is responsible for the most CO2 emissions compared to the rest of the world.  Gillabrand challenged China to “a 21st-century clean energy ‘space race,’ where we decarbonize our economies through innovation and investment at a scale that rises to meet the global challenge we face.”

I’m rather sure China would love this “race” and would happily let us win. This would be a race to the bottom economically and if I was China I would egg us on at every step.

Gillibrand’s plan would make sure clean tech is made by Americans and “not by China or another competitor” with a cross-government initiative requiring products like solar cells to be made in the US. She challenged that “to save our planet, the energy, talents, and commitment of every American will be required…My plan lays out immediate and bold action to protect our communities and save our planet.”

The New York senator also called for the creation of green jobs and better infrastructure for rural communities– something every politician’s plan does, but as usual there is nothing in the way of a real working model.

Enough with the science fiction.
