National Mask Exemption Awareness Day™ (MEADAY104)

  • National Mask Exemption Awareness Day #MEADAY104 celebrated October 4 to "raise awareness and education of, and promote understanding and tolerance toward between mask-exempt and non-mask-exempt persons.
  • "A good portion of people simply are cruel, but a good portion simply are uneducated and fearful. MEADAY104 exists to educate and promote peaceful coexistence for all," says founder Greshun De Bouse
  • Research Scientist Greshun De Bouse says, " I can state in communicating with the West Melbourne, FL mayoral office that Mayor Hanscom has expressed 0% concern for the mask-exempt and their plight."

It seems all we hear these days in #COVIDWORLD is mask this or mask that.  The CDC recommends them. Dr. Fauci recommends them. Governors and mayors have mandated them, and a large number of citizens are wearing them.  But amid all of this recommending and mandating, has anyone or entity really stopped to think and implement practical strategy for our most vulnerable and underserved population during this pandemic-the mask-exempt.

This minority population has an additional set of Covid challenges than the general public in shopping dining gaming and lodging experiences that start with their self identification as mask exempt simply to gain entry to some of the aforementioned establishments.Truth is, many mask- exempt persons face mullying and harassment from non-mask-exempt persons. They are ostracized for medically induced inability to wear masks, not refusal to wear one–two things world-renowned Research Scientist Greshun De Bouse says are two totally different phenomenon. Bill Pratt, Florida father of daughter with cerebral palsy spoke out when a Target threatened to call police because the daughter had to remove her mask due to her condition.

A Toronto man calls for greater mask exemption awareness after his autism spectrum disorder condition prevents him from wearing a mask.

A 29 year old rape survivor on the UK states she has met abuse because her rape-incited PTSD as rendered her unable to wear masks. This rape survivor-Georgina Fallows- has called for greater awareness for exemptions and who better to answer that call than Respected Scientist and Equality Advocate Greshun De Bouse.  Like always, Greshun De Bouse has done it again! She founded National Mask Exemption Awareness Day #MEADAY104 celebrated October 4 to “raise awareness and education of, and promote understanding and tolerance toward between mask-exempt and non-mask-exempt persons, and to prevent MULLYING-non-mask-wearer related bullying,” according to the website.

Greshun De Bouse.

De Bouse says:

“I have both observed and been contacted about the repeated challenges faced by the mask-exempt including severe mullying, degradation, and even police interference.  A good portion of people simply are cruel, but a good portion simply are uneducated and fearful. MEADAY104 exists to educate and promote peaceful coexistence for all. Having to self-identify just to complete everyday activities to shop, dine, game, or lodge is degrading in itself, and makes the mask-exempt more susceptible to mullying. In addition, any requirement of a mask-exempt-person to self-identify as having a certain mask-exempt-inciting condition is violatory.  The mask-exempt already are facing medical challenges, and should not be subjected to exacerbation of their condition or penalized for being ill to the extent of mask-wearing inability.”

If you are anything like Greshun De Bouse, you are for the best interest of all-including the mask-exempt. Interestingly, not all are in favor of mask mandates in general.  According to a September 18, 2020 Fox News report, Gary Kirby, owner of Westside Sports Bar and Lounge in West Melbourne, FL prohibits masks at his establishment and contends his townspeople have “for the most part been in 100% support” of his decision.  Kirby has stated previously in a Fox 35 Orlando interview concerning mask mandates, “I personally don’t agree with it. So that’s why I made the decision to… I don’t want them here.”  Our respected Greshun De Bouse said of her conversations with Kirby that:

“Mr.Kirby seems adamant about his posted business mask-wearing policy, which is a requirement of businesses by the mayor of his city.  It is the exact contrast to many cities/states/businesses across the country with absolute mask-wearing policies. Mr. Kirby has an absolute no mask-wearing policy, but he informed me that his policy is more for anti-theft and other responsible vendor purposes. Mr. Kirby also informed me he read in an article interview that his mayor (Mayor Hanscom) is “opposed to [his] decision 100%” concerning his no-mask policy.

Relatively, I can state in communicating with the West Melbourne, FL mayoral office that Mayor Hanscom has expressed 0% concern for the mask-exempt and their plight. This is quite alarming and speaks to this mayor’s lack of concern for equality, inclusion, and the best interest of all. Still, despite the mayor’s opposition, Mr. Kirby informed me two days ago that his business “has been busy with supporters from all over already.”  He sells a good bit of food in his establishment, and mask-exempt may more readily patronize establishments with ease of entry and no mask-wearing or mask-exempt identification requirement. Of course I neither condone, nor encourage anyone to patronize establishments for alcoholic indulgence.  However, any establishment that offers a ‘road of least resistance’ concerning mask-exemption and entry may be more attractive to the mask-exempt.”

Relatively, even general anti-maskers told Vox.com in August 2020 of their legitimate stance for not wearing masks-the confusing and unsubstantiated evidence that masks actually help combat COVID. MEADAY104 raises awareness for the mask-exempt who are unable to wear masks, not those who refuse.  Some people just don’t wear them just because; others simply can not wear them.  We want mask-exemptions to be respected and not misconstrued as refusals to wear masks.  Ultimately, mask-exempt or not, persons should be able to ‘choose’ to wear or not to wear masks.  Like Greshun De Bouse stated in a previous interview

“Mask-wearing actually can usher in new health problems, exacerbate existing health problems, and there a persons with certain health conditions who really can not wear them for such reasons.”

We anticipate October 4 for National Mask Exemption Awareness Day #MEADAY104 for all to come together at this time!
