North Korea Nuclear Weapons Announcement

  • North Korea created the national nuclear forces.
  • North Korea plans to conduct the nuclear weapons testing this spring.
  • US and North Korean dialogue is at the stand still.

The  North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced the completion of the national nuclear forces. The disclosure occurred during the VIII Congress of the Workers Party Of Korea. The 8th Congress also elected Kim Jong-un as the General Secretary of the Workers Party of Korea. The Congress of the  Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK)  is the top organ of the party.

Kim Jong-un is a North Korean politician serving as Supreme Leader of North Korea since 2011 and the leader of the Workers’ Party of Korea since 2012. He is the second child of Kim Jong-il, who was North Korea’s second supreme leader from 1994 to 2011, and Ko Yong-hui.

Each congress has a different layout and has not been the same even once.

The WPK Charter states that the Party Congress is convened for these specific purposes:

1) To review the work of the WPK Central Committee and the WPK Central Auditing Commission.

2) To adopt and revise the WPK party programs and the Party Charter.

3) To discuss the strategies  and tactics.

4) To elect the chairman of the WPK.

5) To elect the WPK Central Committee.

Furthermore, the leader of the North Korea stated that the creation of national nuclear forces was the necessary step to ensure the security of the nation.  Additionally, the country’s authorities intend to increase the radius of  the missiles.

According to the Kim Jong-un the new technology will allow the North Korean nuclear weapons to have a range of  up to  the 15 thousand km ( 9320 miles).

The chairman of the TPK  stressed that the overall level of status and national power of the DPRK has reached the highest level of advancement.

Moreover, there is a speculation that Kim-Jong-un will conduct the intercontinental ballistic missile testing in the spring 2021. It should be noted, in the fall of last year during the North Korean annual military parade the new intercontinental ballistic missiles were unveiled.

One of the missiles is an upgraded version of the Hwasong-15, which is capable of reaching and striking the US. However, there is a possibility the testing would be called off, if the newly elected US president Joe Biden will be able to negotiate a deal with the North Korea.

Nevertheless, exiting president of the United States Donald Trump is leaving behind the legacy of the US divide and the escalated tensions with the Iran. North Korea is left at the deadlock with the US negotiations during the Trump presidency.

The Hwasong-15 is an intercontinental ballistic missile developed by North Korea. It had its maiden flight on 28 November 2017, around 3 a.m. local time. It is the first ballistic missile developed by North Korea that is theoretically capable of reaching all of the United States mainland.

North Korean leader gave South Korea an ultimatum as well. It is clear, that South Korea would be concerned with the possibility of the North Korea testing the nuclear weapons.

Additionally, the North Korea is working on the developing the unmanned drones with the 310 miles range, which is useful for the surveillance and reconnaissance of the area.

Kim Jong-un also stated that North Korea is working on the hypersonic weapons and already developed the nuclear submarine. It is highly unlikely, North Korea could develop the hypersonic technology on its own.

Therefore, it is highly likely that China is aiding the nuclear development. It is convenient for China to do so, as it allows to put an additional pressure on the US. Hence, China could volunteer to be the mediator in this scenario.

At present, China is one of the most hated nations around the globe. The Coronavirus pandemic that China is responsible for and also consistent theft of the IP, which entails the counterfeit products.

Overall, this year can be tumultuous on the geopolitical arena.
