- A Vietnam veteran named Ronald Nance confronted the bigoted preacher.
- You are a true American hero.
- To the preacher, I pray that in time that you will find the true meaning of following Christ.
Our favorite self righteous preacher (name to be withheld so he will not get even more publicity) attended Lubbock Pride on September 1, 2017 and the attendees denied him!
He and two other protestors were carrying signs that read:
- Jesus Said “… God made THEM male and female.”
- It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
- Will give you $5,000 cash today if….
The Lubbock Police and Lubbock County Sheriffs Department kept things peaceful, a great job by the way!
But this ‘Pastor’ handed out flyers to everyone, including kids and people not even attending pride. A woman who lives down the street from Maxey Park, the location of Lubbock Pride 2019, stated her son who was riding his bike through the park and was confronted by this preacher. He stepped in front of him and gave him a flyer and said to avoid the sin, or go to hell.
The flyer being handed out, which is confusing in the way it’s printed states:
“When it comes to being Sexually pure
it is written in black and white
and regardless of what some may think or say
it is never ok to be
G (r) A Y”
A Vietnam veteran named Ronald Nance who noticed that this preacher was scaring the children in attendance and disrupting the event went to confront this preacher. Mr. Nance stated that he felt like someone needed to stop him from attacking and scaring the children. Mr. Nance confronted him and was trying to preach to this preacher but the bigoted preacher didn’t want to hear the true word of God, he only wanted to preach his wicked and warped interpretation of scripture. This Baptist preacher left shortly after Mr. Nance confronted him, and the event went on undisturbed.
Mr. Nance came to my booth set up at Lubbock Pride for my campaign for office in 2020 for the Texas House of Representatives. At the time I did not realize it was him that had confronted this so-called preacher, and I was unable to thank him for what he had done. I thanked him for his service to the country, and I thanked him and applauded him for being an advocate. But I did not thank him for confronting this preacher and standing up for all of us LGBT in the park. I personally would like to offer my thanks for the deed that you did. And to me, You are a true American hero!
I applaud everyone that stepped up to defend the LGBT rights of the individuals that attended Lubbock Pride, and I want to thank Lubbock Pride, Nick Harpster, and everyone that organized this great event. I want to thank everyone that stood up for our rights, and I want to thank the police and deputies that kept this a safe event.
And for this preacher who uses a wicked and warped interpretation of scripture, I pray that in time, you will find the true meaning of being a follower of Christ and you will come to love everyone as Jesus has commanded. and I hope that in time, you will find a relationship with your son, who you have pretty much disowned, as in your words, “he chose to be gay, and he followed an unrighteous path.” I feel sorry for your son, and everyone you preach against, as a preacher, you above all should follow Jesus’ Commandment to love everyone, and not to judge others. I pray that in time that you will find the true meaning of following Christ and will come to love your son, and LGBT individuals and everyone as Jesus commanded.
