Pompeo and Kushner Traveling To Middle Eastern Countries

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law and adviser to President Donald Trump, are traveling to the Middle East. The trip by the two US officials is mostly to encourage countries in the region to establish relations with Israel. AFP quoted three diplomats as saying that Pompeo and Kushner would travel separately.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will begin his Middle East tour today Sunday. Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will also travel to the Middle East in the coming days.

US officials will encourage Arab countries in the region to normalize relations with Israel. Pompeo is expected to visit Israel, Bahrain, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Sudan.

The main focus of the US Secretary of State’s talks with the leaders of the region will be the recent UAE agreement with Israel and the normalization of their relations with Israel.

The three diplomats told AFP that Kushner would visit Israel, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco following Pompeo’s visit.

Diplomats say no statement is expected after US officials meet with regional leaders. The US Secretary of State also plans to meet with Taliban members in Qatar to discuss inter-Afghan peace talks. Pompeo will also talk about the return of UN sanctions against Iran.

The White House and the State Department did not comment on Pompeo and Kushner’s planned travel plans. The trips of US officials take place immediately after the UAE and Israel agree on the normalization of relations.

The United Arab Emirates formally established diplomatic relations with Israel on Thursday. Israel called the normalization of relations with the UAE a “great day for peace” and Trump described the agreement as a “historic day.”

According to the White House, the peace agreement and cooperation between Israel and the United Arab Emirates was the result of lengthy talks and negotiations between the two countries, including Jared Kushner. Egypt, Bahrain, and Oman have welcomed the normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE, but Iran, Turkey, and some other Muslim countries have expressed dissatisfaction and opposition.

The office of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced on Thursday evening, August 14, after an emergency meeting that the organization rejected and condemned the “sudden announcement” by Israel and the UAE.

The Palestinian Authority has called the UAE-Israel agreement a “betrayal of Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian cause.”

The UAE and Israel will immediately start working together to treat the coronavirus and make a vaccine for it. By working together, these efforts will save lives in the Islamic world, Judaism, and Christianity throughout the region.

The normalization of relations and peaceful diplomacy will bring together two of America’s most stable and powerful partners in the region. Israel and the United Arab Emirates will join the United States in launching a strategic plan for the Middle East and expanding diplomatic, trade, and security cooperation.

Prime Minister Netanyahu and UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed their deep gratitude to President Trump for his commitment to peace in the region and his pragmatic and unique approach to achieving it.
