- The US Secretary of State responded to Khamenei's remarks on Twitter about the UAE-Israel relationship.
- He said he was waiting for Khamenei to respond to the killing of Uighur Muslims by the Chinese government.
- "I hope the UAE wakes up soon and compensates for what they’ve done," said Iran's Supreme Leader.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo responded to Iran Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks on Twitter about the UAE-Israel peace agreement. Pompeo also said he was waiting for Khamenei to respond to the killing of Uighur Muslims by the Chinese government.
In a re-release of Khamenei’s tweet, Pompeo himself tweeted:
“The world must reject and condemn [Khamenei’s] ideology of hatred. The children of Abraham – Muslims, Christians, and Jews – rejoice at the prospect of peace, while [Khamenei] calls for more violence. The U.S. stands with the UAE and all those seeking a brighter future.”
Khamenei tweeted earlier:
“the nation of Palestine is under various, severe pressures. Then, the UAE acts in agreement with the Israelis and filthy Zionist agents of the US— such as the Jewish member of Trump’s family— with utmost cruelty against the interests of the World of Islam.”
Khamenei is referring to Jared Kushner, Trump’s Jewish son-in-law. Pompeo wrote in another tweet:
“And if you’re looking for those betraying Islam Khamenei, China is seeking to destroy the Uyghurs. Looking forward to your public callout for the CCP’s horrific treatment of those Muslims.”
Pompeo was referring to Khamenei, who called the UAE-Israel agreement a betrayal of Islam. “I hope the UAE wakes up soon and compensates for what they’ve done,” Iran’s supreme leader added.
Khamenei devoted part of his speech to the issue of establishing relations between the UAE and Israel at a conference with a number of cabinet ministers on Tuesday.
The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran called the UAE peace agreement with Israel a “betrayal of the Islamic world and the Arab nations,” and said that the UAE leaders had not only forgotten the Palestinian issue with the peace agreement with Israel, but also Israel. “They have opened the area.”
The United Arab Emirates has agreed to normalize relations with Israel through US mediation. The UAE is the third Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with Israel after Egypt and Jordan.
Iran the “Greatest Threat to the Region”
Kushner, also a senior Trump adviser, called the first direct flight of an Israeli plane to the UAE “a historic flight,” and expressed hope that other Middle Eastern countries would sign similar agreements with Israel.
“The United States considers Iran the greatest threat in the region,” Kushner said, conveying a message from the US president to the people of the UAE. Kushner added that he described the Abu Dhabi-Tel Aviv agreement as a basis for changing the course of peace in the Middle East.
On the other hand, US National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien said that Abu Dhabi is the first station (for the arrival of the US-Israeli delegation) in the region and the United States hope that other countries will be ready for this hosting.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on Sunday, after a meeting with the US delegation at a news conference in Tel Aviv about Israel’s “secret talks” with other Arab states. Diplomatic efforts are underway to sign a peace agreement with other Arab countries, he said
