Russia and China to Build Moon Colony

  • The design of the moon colony is developed by China.
  • Other countries want their own moon colonies.
  • The next war could be in space.

Russia and China are ready to sign an historic deal to build the first lunar base. The two countries will cooperate in creating an international lunar structure that China developed. The information was released on the Russian government’s official site. The lunar base can be seen as part of a second space race against America.

The Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities (ROSCOSMOS) is a state corporation responsible for the wide range and types of space flights and cosmonautics programs for the Russian Federation.

Interestingly, there were proposals by Russian physicists regarding the design of the moon colony. A Russian scientist, Alexander Mayboroda, Director of Avanta Consulting in Rostov-On-Don, offered his engineering solutions.

He has myriad patents pertaining to space. The most recent one being a “Method for Delivering Cargoes into Space and a System for Implementation of Same.” The moon base will contain a centrifuge, which will allow an earth-like level of gravity.

Roscosmos previously refused to cooperate with NASA in creating a near-lunar visited station. However, Roscosmos  intends to implement the lunar station project together with China.

In November 2017, Roscosmos and the Chinese National Space Administration signed a program of cooperation in the field of space from 2018-2022.

The program consisted of six sections:

  1. Lunar and deep space exploration.
  2. Space science and related technologies.
  3. Satellites and their applications.
  4. Element base and materials.
  5. Cooperation in the field of remote sensing data, and other topics.
  6. The implementation of projects.

Working subgroups were created in the space agencies of Russia and China.

Furthermore, the goal of the International Lunar Research Stations (ILRS) is to establish a long-term robotic presence on the Moon by 2030. This will eventually establish a sustained human presence. Humans have not set foot on the moon since December 1972, when Harrison Schmitt and Gene Cernan left  their footprints during the Apollo 17 mission.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is an independent agency of the U.S. federal government responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and space research. NASA was established in 1958, succeeding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.

Both countries will conduct research, starting with the upcoming Chinese missions— Chang’e 6, 7, and 8— and the Russian probe, Luna 27.

Russia and China plan to use the lunar base to facilitate “the construction and operation of the first human-sharing platform at the moon’s south pole, supporting long-term, large-scale scientific research, technical experiments, and the development and use of lunar resources.”

China and Russia plan that in the early 2030s, the development of ILRS will theoretically provide a base for a long-term robotic presence on the Moon with the potential for short crewed missions.

Plans to structure the long-term human presence are expected to be implemented between 2036 and 2045.

Moreover, the US plans to establish a lunar colony. In addition, India is aggressively considering its own capabilities in space. Hence, India would want to establish its own moon colony.

In the future, there could be an actual space war. In reality, the US is adamant of having control of space. In 2019, the United States Space Force became the space service branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, one of the eight U.S. uniformed services, and the world’s first and currently only independent space force.

Russia and China will not back off from space exploration. It is plausible there could be World War III in space.

  1. Really interesting news story. Makes me a little nervous on the effects of setting up earth like gravity field anywhere on the moon. What effect would that have on the earth/moon gravitational fields? Maybe none, if it is a small enough spot. Still the earth ocean tidal affects are a very balanced gravitational pull.

    1. thank you for your comments, I personally, wouldn’t want to live in such colony, but it is the new future for business investments too. Great insight
