Dmitry Medvedev condemned Trump ban from the social media.
Twitter suspended Trump permanently.
Russia does not even allow to have main stream media that is not owned by the government in Russia or owned by the proxies.
The Deputy Head of the Russian Security Council and the former president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev stated that blocking the social media accounts of the US president Donald Trump is a manifestation of the rampant censorship and digital totalitarianism. Donald Trump accounts have been blocked on multiple social media platforms.
The reason behind the block is the fear of the use of the social media to incite violence. Overall, Trump had close to 200 million followers compounded through the multiple social media platforms.
Trump has been reinstated on Facebook and Instagram. These days, the social media conglomerates influence the information and access around the globe. The world is greatly influenced by the IT companies.
Furthermore, Medvedev reiterated that the social media networks have unleashed the information warfare against the “normal parameters”. However, he still believes that even with the Trump censorship there will continue to be a divide within both political parties in the US.
According to the Deputy Head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the outdated American election system has led to the aggravation of the most important issue concerning the unprecedented role of the social networks and the new media in the public policy.
The statement is ironic, given the fact, Russia passed last year the constitutional amendments allowing Putin to stay in power indefinitely. Also, the new changes include the lifetime pardon of the president once stepping down.
Interestingly, Trump was hoping to have the same scenario for himself. Nevertheless, Trump has not been successful finding such loophole.
Moreover, Russia is a very corrupt nation and Medvedev has no place condemning the US political system. In reality, Russian politics is a circus, including the case of the so called useful “opposition” Alexey Navalny, who is returning back to Russia.
Medvedev went even further, by regurgitating the vote count after November US presidential election. At the time, Twitter labeled Trump tweets to be an unreliable content pertaining the Trump insinuation of winning the election.
Additionally, Medvedev said “It turns out that several technology corporations located in California, having felt a taste for power, allowed themselves to freely manipulate news and facts based on their political preferences. What is this, if not rampant censorship?”
Yet, Russia does not even allow to have main stream media that is not owned by the government in Russia or owned by the proxies. Therefore, Medvedev has no place accusing US of the freedom of speech denial to Trump.
It is clear, Trump will not give up social media, but will migrate to one of the foreign platforms, which can include Telegram or even Vkontakte. Russians social media giants stated that they welcome Donald Trump on their platforms. According to the social media posts, Trump already has a Telegram account.
In conclusion, it is clear that the tensions will continue until the newly elected US president Joe Biden inauguration. The US capital has one of the largest numbers of the US National Guard deployed for the security reasons.
