This week, Russia’s Rostec State Corporation unveiled the operation of the Russian 5G base station. The layout of the base station, which implements the functionality required by the Telecom operator to build a mobile network, was developed by domestic specialists with the participation of NPC kryptonite.
The presentation was held as part of the V conference “Digital industry of industrial Russia” (CIPR-2020). The stand with a functional layout of the base station consists of three parts: a radio transmission module, a digital processing module, and a mobile network core (5GC).
The base station layout works in Stand Alone mode, which allows you to implement the full functionality of the 5G network. The roadmap for the development of 5G technology in Russia time frame is 2020-2024. It is estimated that some $520,800 will be required for the development and commissioning of a line of equipment for the construction of 5G communication networks.
Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec State Corporation, said:
“The sample presented at the conference and it is a Russian development. It is compatible with any manufacturer’s equipment from any country, as long as it also works in accordance with international standards. Rostec will become the coordinator of production cooperation between developers and manufacturers of 5G equipment in Russia.”
The base station development project was financed from the own funds of the Kryptonite research and production company, a joint venture of Automatika concern and X Holding.
The development and production is planned within the framework of technological cooperation of Russian manufacturing companies that have experience and expertise for mobile communication networks. Vasily Brovko, Director for special assignments of Rostec State Corporation and co–chairman of the architectural Council for the development of 5G in Russia said:
“The development of a prototype of the Russian base station shows that Russia has a chance to enter the world market of communication equipment for 5G and take its place in it. However, the development of commercial equipment and the construction of a full-fledged 5G network in Russia will require years of work, tens of billions of rubles and close cooperation of all manufacturers.”
Using a functional layout of the Russian base station, Rostec’s stand demonstrated 5G network capabilities, such as mobile Internet, mobile virtual reality, augmented reality, and 4K video streaming.
When implementing the base station layout, the frequencies of 3.3-4.2 GHz will be used, since they are the most common and promising for the deployment of the 5G/IMT-2020 network. 5G is a new generation of mobile communications, with mobile Internet speeds ranging from 10 to 25 Gbit/s with minimal delays of only 1-2 MS.
Moreover, Russia has a chance to get into the global market, especially since Chinese firm Huawei has been sidelined by the West due to security concerns.
