Iranian Clubs to Boycott AFC Champions League

The main Iranian football clubs decided not to participate in the AFC Champions League for 2020, in response to an alleged ban on home matches in the country. The move is ostensibly related to the security atmosphere, and comes following the accidental downing of a Ukrainian airliner by missiles from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps that killed 176 people near the capital, Tehran, local media reported on Saturday.

Women’s World Cup: FIFA Wants to Expand From 24 to 32

The 2019 World Cup in France has been the “Best Women’s World Cup in History,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said today.

Could the Women’s World Cup experience the same inflation as its male equivalent? Two days away from the US – Netherlands final in Lyon on Sunday (5 pm), Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, said he was in favor of extending the format of the competition from 24 to 32 teams as soon as possible.

Flamengo: More Than Just a Sports Club

Rio football club Flamengo became 2019’s Campeão Carioca crowned team, winning against Vasco da Gama 2-0 on Sunday, April 21st. Flamengo won earlier against them 2-0, so the team could have lost 0-1 to Vasco and still been crowned. Yet, the team never slowed, bringing their overall total to 4-0 and dominantly grabbing their record 35th Campeonato Championship.

It was a solid comeback after last year when Vasco won the professional soccer championship final against Flamengo.
