Condemnation of the US peace plan for the Middle East was deleted from the text of a Palestinian draft resolution to be voted on in the UN Security Council on Tuesday, and it refrains from mentioning the United States, contrary to its first language. In the middle of negotiations in Cairo with Hamas and Islamic Jihad for a five year cease fire, three missiles were launched at southern Israel Saturday night. Two of the missiles were intercepted by the Iron Dome and one fell in open area. Several people were treated for trauma. A group of students had gathered to watch a basketball tournament at the time of the explosions. They dispersed quickly to find cover from this potential danger.
Israel and Islamic Jihad reached a ceasefire agreement Wednesday night with Egyptian mediation, although rockets were launched Thursday morning from Gaza on Israel border communities. The agreement was to come into effect at 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning. A Islamic Jihad spokesmen said that the ceasefire was based on a list of demands including a halt of the targeted killings of the group’s leaders by Israel. Also it was to include a halt to Israeli aggression at the border during the Friday March of Return protests.
Starting Tuesday morning, over 250 rockets have been shot at the Israel civilian population in the Southern settlements up to Tel Aviv after a targeted attack on a commander in Islamic Jihad in Gaza. The rocket fire brought life in much of Israel to a standstill and schools remained closed in communities close to the Gaza border. All public gatherings have been restricted. Israel early Wednesday evening is still under rocket fire.
Late Monday night Israel targeted and killed two Jihad commanders in Syria and in Gaza. In Damascus, Syrian media reported two killed in the attack including Islamic Jihad Akram Ajuri’s son in a home located near the Lebanese embassy in Mezzah, a Western District of the Syrian capital. Early this week in the vicinity of the entrance to the temple mount two terrorists attacked and stabbed a policeman on duty. The Golani Brigade, the pride of Israeli Defense Forces, foiled an attack at the Gaza border fence early this week. Four Palestinians armed with RPGs, assault rifles, and grenades attempted to breach the wall and infiltrate Israel. They were shot dead and only one of the men was able to climb the fence and throw a grenade at the soldiers. Two Israeli soldiers were slightly injured from shrapnel. The body of the terrorist Abu Salah was taken by Israel. Abu Salah is a member of Hamas border patrol.
Hamas sent a delegation to Iran and met with Ayatollah Ali Khomeini as the alliance between them seems to be expanding. Iranian leaders said that Hamas is Iran’s first line of defence. They mocked the deal of the century as a dangerous plot. A Hamas leader said once the Palestinians were throwing stones today they have precision rockets.
Kevin Durant suffered a right lower leg injury in Game 5 of the playoffs and could not make the first four games in the finals between Golden State and Toronto. He appeared in game five and played spectacularly until the middle of the second quarter. He made his first three 3 point attempts, he blocked a shot, until he took a hard fall over Toronto Raptors big man Serge Ibaka injuring his Achilles tendon. The Raptor fans started cheering. The players on Toronto especially Kyle Lowry took offense to his supporters from Toronto and objected to them cheering the injury of Kevin. They knew that the Lord in heaven did not like this reaction to the injury of a vital player on their opponent Golden State. Even though without Kevin Durant they had already defeated Golden State in three of the four first games of the finals, it is not good sportsmanship to applaud his injury. Also God took offense to the reactions of the crowd to teach them a lesson and Golden State defeated Toronto even without Kevin.
Another flare up between Israel and Hamas began unexpectedly over the weekend. While Jews in the south were praying in the Synagogue on Saturday morning (the day of the Sabbath) suddenly there were sirens. The people interrupted their prayers and ran into bomb shelters. Officially another battle began between Israel and Gaza. The war continued until 4:30 on Monday morning.
Nearly 700 rockets were fired from Gaza and four Israelis were killed. Most of the missiles aimed at Israel population centers were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system. Very few made clean hits into Israeli populated areas in the south including Beer Sheva, Kiryat Gat, Ashkelon, Sederot, Nitivot, Ofakim and Israel settlements in the south.
