The Oak Ridge Laboratory announced a revolutionary project that includes using 3D printing technology to produce a state of the art nuclear reactor. The prototype of its core was printed in just three months. According to the standards of the nuclear industry, this is a super pace. The hexagonal structure took close to 40 hours to build, with temperatures reaching over 1,400 degrees Celsius around the melt pool where a laser heats and melts while adding a new layer.

Fire Breaks Out at Polish National Center for Nuclear Research – Is It Accident or Kremlin’s Strategic Move?

There are reports of the fire that started inside the ventilation system in the Polish National Center of the Nuclear Research in the city of Svierk, 30 km  from Warsaw. Th Center has been Poland’s top location for nuclear research since 1955. Over the decades several Swierk institutes formed the core of Poland nuclear ambitions, creating four of Poland’s five nuclear research reactors and critical assemblies, all but one of which is still at service.

Why is Russia Planning to Send 82 Tonnes of Nuclear Material to China?

Russia is planning to send 82 tonnes of monazite from the Ural region to China. The proposal was discussed on November 6. Monazite is a reddish-brown phosphate mineral containing rare-earth metals. It occurs usually in small, isolated crystals. Since the start of atomic projects in the Soviet Union in the 1930s, Siberia has been one of the regions where monazite in the river sands was extracted for its Thorium, a naturally-occurring, slightly radioactive metal discovered in 1828 by the Swedish chemist Jons Jakob Berzelius, who named it after Thor, the Norse god of thunder.

New Theory of Latest Russian Nuclear Explosion

This summer Russia suffered multiple tragedies in their defense sector, including the loss of lives on the “Losharik” nuclear submarine. The latest tragedy was an explosion during the Nenoksa Missile Test Site near Severodvink, a region in northern Russia. Both times, highly skilled Russian elite specialists died. The incident at the Russian defense nuclear testing facility claimed the lives of seven people and left others injured. Overall, it is the third incident within a week in the same geographical area.

Kim Jong-un Inspected Large Newly Built Submarine – Puts Pressure on the United States

Kim Jong-un inspected a new submarine in what looks like a new gesture to pressure the US within the framework of denuclearization talks. While negotiations remain stagnant, North Korea does not stop its military development. North Korean propaganda media yesterday claimed that Kim reviewed the submarine, with a deployment near the waters of the Sea of Japan (called the East Sea in the two Koreas).

Iran Refuses to Negotiate Its Ballistic Missile Program

The Iranian mission to the United Nations, Ali Reza Mir Yusuf, said Tehran’s ballistic missile program is not negotiable. His remarks came after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke of the Iranians’ readiness to discuss their missile program.

US President Donald Trump also said progress has been made in an effort to reduce tensions with Iran. Relations between the two countries deteriorated dramatically after Trump withdrew last year from the nuclear deal with Iran and re-imposed sanctions on Tehran. President Hassan Rohani is ready for negotiations with the United States in order to stop efforts to punish his country economically. Amid tensions between Washington and Tehran, Germany, France and the United Kingdom called for responsible action. Iranian President Hassan Rohani said on Sunday his country is ready to resume talks with the United States if Washington removes heavy economic sanctions against the country and returns to the 2015 nuclear deal.
