Thank God for Giving Health

  • People take good health for granted and are sorry when they are sick.
  • Health is connected to happiness. Without good health it is hard to be happy.
  • All the complexities of the body is above the human understanding.

People take for granted the gift of life. In the morning when you wake up you should bless God for giving you another day.  The Jewish custom is to bless God for health after attending to one’s needs in the bathroom. When you go to the bathroom in the morning or during the day and empty your bowels or urinate, afterwards it is a good time to bless God for health.

The body is a delicate mechanism which needs care. If one blood vessel would open in a vital organ all the functions will be affected. With health comes all the blessings of life.

People who suffer from constipation appreciate the times when they are fortunate to egest their wastes through moving their bowels. If a person does not urinate during the day, he may need surgery. Good health includes in it good digestion, and regulation of bowels and normal urination.  Drinking water is most important for health. Eating nutritional foods help the body and its functions.

It is a Jewish religious custom after urination or a bowel movement to say a blessing.  The blessings is said after washing the hands clean, and when leaving the rest room. This blessing not only shows appreciation to God for giving health; but may also be a blessing for those that show their appreciation to God who gives them health. These are the words of the traditional Jewish blessing. It has in it universal value.

The human body and its functions the miracle of God.

Blessed are you God our God King of the universe, who fashioned man with wisdom, and created within him many openings and many cavities.  It is obvious and known before your throne of glory that if but one of these cavities or openings were to be ruptured or blocked, it would be impossible to survive and to stand before you God and our fellow man. Blessed are You, who heals all flesh and acts wonderously.

This prayer is written in every Jewish prayer book to be recited at the beginning of the day. It may be recited at other times during the day after attending to your needs. Through this blessing is given recognition to God for giving health and recognizes the complexity of the nature of the body and its organs. It expresses the daily miracle how life continues each day, and gives credit to the creator of the universe for sustaining man and the world. Science and medicine reaches deep into the complexities of the functions of all the systems of the body to find ways of healing and preventing disease.  Science will not deny the amazing creation of the human body and mind and they are only beginning to understand every aspect of its functions. Whether or not you believe in God; the functions of the human body are miraculous. One of the needs of man is for love. Love releases the tensions of the body and nervous system through physical and emotional contact. Prayer to God from a grateful and thankful heart is healing to the soul and body.
