Ever wondered why some people wake up in the morning with so much energy? Ever wondered why some people are so determined to make it in life and others merely get by and just exist? Ever wondered why some people who you went to school with are doing so well and getting wealthy, buying properties investing in stocks etc., while some are still floating about with no sense of direction whatsoever?
Fear plays a major role in what we become, the risks we choose, the kinds of job we take, the amount of salary compensation we negotiate, the kind of businesses we dare to venture into etc. The individual that overcomes these roles fear plays is the one who has worked on their mind to see the “BIGGER PICTURE.” You must understand that if there is no bigger picture in mind then the course you are pursing is almost defeated. Take for instance anyone who gets into college as a freshman has a bigger picture in mind, yes you guessed it right “Graduation.”
Once a student gets into school with the mindset that there is no future or reason to study hard and do their best, it will be safe to conclude that such a person is yet to understand the importance of creating a bigger picture and it can as well be inferred that such a person will most likely struggle through school and may eventually drop out if not redirected. Same goes for a salesman/woman, if there is no bigger picture of someday owning their own sales outlet or becoming a director or holding managerial positions the individual will most likely remain in that entry-level sales associate position and without doubt be filled with the limiting thoughts of fear.
According to Merriam Webster dictionary “Bigger Picture” is defined to mean the entire perspective on a situation or issue. The definition given in wiktionary explains my thoughts better, it states that Bigger Picture is an understanding of a situation that includes more than what is immediately apparent.
Where there is an understanding of the bigger picture the torment and impact of fear is tremendously limited if not completely thrown into abeyance. To not empower fear in your life you need to always think of the future impact, not just the present; if you can establish in your mind that what you are pursuing is priceless then fear most definitely cannot be allowed to win. Dwelling on the present when it is full of uncertainties or hopelessness will only hinder your capability to do great works and live a life of impact.
I remember when we newly relocated to the US, one of the things that kept us sane was our understanding of this principle. We left our comfortable life in Nigeria and moved over here, even though Nigeria is still a developing country and of course cannot be compared to a country like the US, it was not easy leaving your whole life behind to start afresh in an entirely new land (little wonder Lot’s wife looked back when they were leaving Sodom). Our journey was beautiful because the bigger picture was always in view. I believe you will most likely have the courage to face life, combat fears and move ahead in life, once you master the art of “seeing the bigger picture.”
WHY IS THIS PRINCIPLE SO IMPORTANT?
Looking at the bigger picture helps you understand where it is that you’re heading and gives you a clearer vision of your goals. The bigger picture allows you to keep your eyes trained on the ultimate goals. It does this by helping you keep your final destination in sight. Cultivating this habit helps limit the distractions and the fear that comes with it.
