With Southern Border Family Units Up 400% ~ Biden Wants Healthcare for Immigrants ~ Trump Wants More US Control and Accountability

The US Southern Border with Mexico has seen 531,478 apprehension from October to April 2019, compared to 288,612 during the same time period in 2018–that’s an 84% increase.

There were 109,144 migrants encountered in April at the Southern Border, the highest since 2007, or 12 years.  Using nominal seasonal normality Princeton Policy Advisors predicts that 2019 Southern Apprehensions will double from 2018, and reach the highest level since 2006.

Southwest Border Family Unit Apprehensions is up 400%  year-over-year. The monthly apprehension rate is currently over 100,000 and the 6 month apprehension rate is over 75,000 per month.  In 2016 the Office of Immigration estimated that they only apprehend around 75% of the migrants.

Democratic Leading Presidential Candidate and former Vice President (D) Joe Biden spoke up about immigration claiming “I think that anyone who is in a situation where they’re in need of healthcare, regardless of whether they are documented or undocumented, we have an obligation to see that they are cared for…That’s why I think we need more clinics around the country.”  even though in the past he claimed “I voted for 700 miles of fence.”

The Trump Administration has made two separate announcement designed to solve the Southern crisis:

  1. The Department of Homeland Security is launching a DNA testing pilot on the Southern Border with Mexico, that provides results in under 1 ½ hours, giving them the ability to charge and prosecute any adult caught falsifying their legal status.
  2. A federal appeals court has overturned an earlier stay and allow Trump administration to continue requiring asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico as they await court proceedings in the United States. This is known as the “Remain in Mexico” policy.

Almost everyone agrees the situation at the border is a crisis. However, Congressional Democrats currently appear unwilling to help The President with any legislation that would tighten the country’s immigration laws. Trump still has broad executive powers, including using the military on the border–powers he has not fully exercised yet.
