Meanwhile, scientists have developed a tissue that denies the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus the ability to enter cells. This effect is caused by a weak electric field generated by the material in the presence of moisture. Now the researchers are going to get approval from regulatory authorities and start producing masks. The development is expected to be commercially produced by Vomaris Inc.
It has long been known that many viruses use an electric field to enter the cell. Among them is the culprit of the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. This means that the enemy can be defeated by its own weapon: using an external electric field. It redistributes the charges on the viral particle, after which the pathogen is deprived of the ability to generate its own field necessary for infecting the cell. The new invention is able to stop the virus infecting the organism.
The new mask consists of a polyester fabric on which miniature elements consisting of zinc and silver are applied. Human breath moistens the material, and tiny batteries generate a field of 0.5 volts. In experiments, tens of thousands of virus particles came into direct contact with the tissue. An FDA cleared wireless electroceutical dressing was used as a source of weak electric 74 field for the current study and is referred to as electroceutical fabric.
The mask was able to stop the virus before it got through the material. The virus was rebuffed, due to the electric field and within a minute later, the virus was no longer able to infect the living cells that the researchers “suggested” to it.

The researchers previously tested how long the virus can survive on various surfaces at room temperature. On glass and banknotes, the virus was still detected on the second day, but by the fourth it was definitely gone. On stainless steel and plastic it stayed up to seven days. The researchers were also struck by the fact that after a week, a detectable level of infection was observed on the outer layer of the surgical mask, with which specialists usually protect the face.
